We have a whole string of oil refineries near Salt Lake City, Utah.
Occasionally, one of them has a fire or an explosion. This morning one of them had a really BIG explosion . It was felt about 10 miles away by many people in the area, rattled windows and shook buildings. Here's the link to it: http://www.ksl.com/?nid=148&sid=8551420 The fire was caused from a leaking line that had hydrogen and diesel fuel in it that caught fire. Just goes to show, even the big boys (petroleum oil refineries) go "boom!" once in a while. Anytime you're playing with flammable material, the risk is there of a fire, even with lots of safety precautions in place. Luckily, in this case, no one was hurt, no casualties, just a really, really big boom & lots of smoke. It also goes to show having good safety plans in place (the refinery has it's own fire fighters on staff) can really help even when things go wrong. -Graydon
