I awoke the other morning and the penny suddenly dropped. Some of you may have noticed a post I put up a while ago refering to dropout I was getting in my fuel tank. The end result was that I couldn't get more than a few miles without the filters blocking. I took the tank off and had to clean it out with a hose pipe and dry it. (Twice in fact becuse I didn't do a good enough job the first time.) The dropout was a white soft substance. There were several theories about methyl stearate, monoglycerides and triglycerides, etc ,etc. What I failed to mention was the fact that I had been using the Bio power recipe for treating svo. I think what happened was that as the weather got cooler the FFa was coating the insde of the tank. Using diesel wasn't a problem but when I started making and using bio that's when the problems began. I presumed that it was my bio taht was the problem however I now think that it was bio doing it's job of cleaning up my fuel system.
Since I cleaned out the tank i have had no problems using first 50/50% and now 100%bio.
This is not meant to detract from biopower I am sure they are well meaning people. What a pity we can't get see through tanks.

The learning curve ....how steep it is!!!

Regards
Dave

cold in Perth? try the UK. the oil cooling down should'nt really block you filters because as the engine is runing the filter is warm also i find the it has to be very cold to stop the BD from running freely. my tdi PD runs on b100 and has run fine upto -5.c. so ni would check that the BD has reacted properly, or there is no water left. I dont know what the 'bio power' recipe is but it would sound like its is not work as well as it should. svo will gel easily. good luck Dave.

In my opinion the most important test you can do is to cool a sample of fuel down to the lowest temperature you expect and see if it stays clear. If it does it is both low enough in freezing point and in moisture content.

Dave,
You are not originally from Australia, are you? Did you grow up in the southern United States?

Hi Jim D
I am originally from Liverpool, England(Beatles country)

Hi Audiboy
The biopower recipe involves mixing the svo with turpentine or white spirit. This gets the fat to sink to the bottom and then you can syphon off the oil. It seemed to work Ok if you can keeo the mix pretty warm but if you have any fat still in the oil and if cools down then it will solidify first.

regards
dave

Hose pipe is a very country way of saying water hose over here. I wonder if it migrated over from the UK in the last few hundred years...
