Have you researched the hazards of sodium methylate yet? I'm not saying you shouldn't use it, but... Heating may cause violent combustion or explosion. Reacts violently with water producing flammable methanol and corrosive sodium hydroxide. The substance may ignite spontaneously on contact with moist air. The substance is a strong reducing agent and reacts violently with oxidants. The substance is a strong base, it reacts violently with acid and is corrosive. Attacks many metals forming flammable/explosive gas. From: NIOSH Safety CardAt 30% it is probably safer to handle but it's still too much for me. Good luck with it. Ken

Bunk, David was referring to Sodium Methylate in solution of alcohol; the card you linked to is for the granular form. Granted, they're both dangerous, but the hazard class is lower for the solution. I wasn't able to located a separate card for the solution. Perhaps you can?

That's why I said: quote: Originally posted by Bunk: At 30% it is probably safer to handle...
I read somewhere it kills nerve cells before you feel any pain but I don't remember the source. Ken

Bunk, I was just hoping you could scrounge up the card for the solution. I wasn't able to find it. Thanks.

I couldn't find a NAVOSH card for it but I found this MSDS. Ken
