I have a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado Classic Duramax Diesel LBZ. I run B100 in it without any problems. Is the catylatic converter really needed if running biodiesel? How about EGR? A lot of people on some of the Duramax forums block off the EGR and remove the cat. I was just curious as if the emissions equipment really helps while running biodiesel since it already burns so clean.

I think you get about +10% more NOx then with regualr diesel and the cat is suspoed to assit in removing that. However you will get a few points on the MPG chart by removing the Cat. Blocking the EGR is an ok idea, but its not worth the hassel if your not planning on making more than a 100 or so HP over stock... or your truck is a Ford 6.0L

I have a 07 LBZ also and would say do not take off the CAT, also lot's of my friends have blocked the EGR with no problems. There are lots of after market kits that have high performance cats out there if you want to spend the $$

Actually, that's not exactly true. Studies differ on NOx effect (some show increase, some show decrease, some show not much change), but one thing is clear: there are less NOx emissions from used oil biodiesel than from virgin oil biodiesel.
