Hey. Are you using wood right? Did you know that it's actually okay to chop woods - but not to burn it because of the CO2 pollution? This is a new video that tells you about it:

I don't agree when the tree rots the carbon is released anyway, that is why they are carbon neutral.

True that - it's more spot on to say that you shouldn't use wood that could be recycled/used as building materials... of course it's way better to burn wood then fossil fuels Smile

ok folks.. FYI... you should absolutely not burn wood, unless there is no other heating option!

Burning wood (clean dry hardwood) is TOXIC... in fact, it is 12 times more carcinogenic than tobacco smoke. Google "woodsmoke" and "health" and you will find all the info. Why burning is still legal, I dont know.

PLUS, burning wood creates particulate pollution, extremely small sized particles (PM 2.5), which create TONS of smog (wood is DIRTIER than COAL), and those tiny particles are called "aresols" which CONTRIBUTE TO GLOBAL WARMING... wood is NOT carbon neutral when it is burned. It is only carbon neutral when it ROTS naturally. Deadwood should be composted. Save the air!

If you dont want to rely on fossil fuels for heating then run an oil furnace with biodiesel or SVO. Or use an oil stove. Oil burns cleanly (no smoggy woodsmoke air), and vegetable oils are not toxic when burned.

DONT BURN WOOD! You are polluting our shared air with FILTH!

greenwashed? Look at the facts... do some research... science proves burning wood is toxic to human (and animal) health. If you're in the middle of nowhere and you want to give yourself lung cancer, go for it!

But I 100% agree with you, that when you have neighbors, you should never burn wood. No one should be forced to breathe woodsmoke against their will.

Still, svo and biodiesel are clean when burned, and won't give you lung cancer!

Have to disagree with you on that Feaxy. Wood burning is CO2 neutral, Fossil fuels are pushing up CO2 levels.
Most fuels produce carcinogens when burnt and the human race has survived wood fires for many thousands of years.
The idea that wood is a greater health risk than coal is to much, coal dust can kill you without ever being burnt, same with gasoline and a lot of the other fossil fuels.

It no wonder these idiotic notions become widely spread belief. Did any of the green on the brain brigade actually READ the site linked and referenced to????

quote:
ENERGY RECOVERY

Discarded and used wood provides a carbon neutral substitute for fossil fuels. And the CO2 returned to the atmosphere was initially used to grow trees in the forests – a natural circle.

Using the discarded wood products as a source of energy and burning the wood is the final link in the wood-carbon lifecycle.

But before burning the wood as carbon neutral energy, we must use the wood as building materials and other wood products. Otherwise we will not be able to obtain the full carbon sink effect potential which reduces CO2 in the atmosphere and helps reducing the impact of global warming.

Instead of wasting the energy from the wood at a landfill, burning it provides a carbon neutral substitute for fossil fuels. Since it only returns the CO2 to the atmosphere, which was initially used to grow trees, wood combustion does not contribute to the greenhouse effect.

Since wood contains very little sulphate or nitrogen, contributing to acid rain, and, furthermore, produces little ash, wood is a very clean source of energy.

And somehow some individuals translated that into the popycock they are preaching above??

For those that think Burning Bio or WVO is so incredibly clean and non toxic, why not sleep in your car in the garage with the engine running all night so you can use the heater to keep warm. Don't forget to wind down the windows so you can get a good whiff of all those lovely clean cancer free emissions!

The gene pool as well as those that would like to see forums like this maintain some credibility of content will thank you.

Uhhh...

And it is a wonder that all of our ancestors didn't die off because of wood fire induced cancer!!!!

I would encourage using a catalytic or high efficiency non catalytic stoves. You shouldn't have visible particulate matter coming from your chimneys.

The solution, of course, would be to cut down the trees... load them on Diesel trucks, and ship them to Arizona for long-term carbon storage.

Perhaps the ultra-greenies have only seen pictures of woodstoves and do not realize that we install them with chimneys that vent the woodsmoke out of the building.
