hello all, first of all thank you everyone for such an informative site. my question is i know i have water in my oil, how bad is it to heat the oil to 275-300 degrees Fahrenheit to boil the water off? that seems to be my only problem. other than that with the water boiled off it titrates at 3 grams and with a base of 5 grams o naoh and make very good looking bio that my tractor loves to drink!

I'd just reduce the temperature and increase the drying time.

If you add a float switch that cuts power to your heating element when oil level drops below a certain level, then you can relax a bit and let the tank dry the oil.

It also helps to recirc the oil and spray it coarsly through a nozzle back into your tank top as this increases the surface area available for evaporatine drying. I suggest a coarse spray because a fine spray will mist the area with oil and be a fire and slipping hazard. You could even just shove a small tube in the end of a hose and pinch the end so it flattens out the oil into a coarse fan spray. Even just that will increase the efficiency a lot.

I've seen it done and it works. A local biodiesel expert showed me his system and it's pretty much as I described, but I added the float switch heater circuit braker as a safety measure.
