I have my processor assembled. I have my methanol and KOH. I have my strained WVO. I'm all ready to start making biodiesel... but the following questions come to mind.

1) When making the biodiesel, when do I add the MethOxide? After heating the oil? Before?

2) How long do I keep the mixture at temperature? What temperature is recommended? (I think it's 160F, but could be wrong.)

3) Do I use the pump to keep the concoction circulating during processing, or just let convection inside the tank do that?

4) When should I keep the vent tube open, and when should it be closed? Do I even need a vent tube, or is a 30PSI relief valve enough?

Advice from experienced biodiesel producers is eagerly anticipated.

You mention maintaining the temperature. The water heater comes with insulation that can keep the oil at temperature for long enough to process in cold weather and days in warm weather. It has built in thermostats that can be wired to bring it up to temperature without overheating.

On the vent valve, you can remove it or wire it open. you don't need to close it. Make sure both your 30psi vent and the vent are plumbed to the outside.

---------------------------------------

First, Make sure your Appleseed is wired like this:

-----------------------------------
1) Add the oil to the appleseed see here for ways

2) Turn on the heat and start the pump mixing.

3) Titrate your oil. instructions

4) make your methoxide see here

5) Unplug the Appleseed when the temperature reaches 130F

6) Add the methoxide slowly - It should take at least 15 minutes.

7) Continue to run the pump for an additional 1-2 hours.

8) Let settle overnight.

9) Drain the glycerine

10) pump the biodiesel to the wash tank.
