Hi,
Well it took me a year of hanging around this site to finally start producing biodiesel.

The fuel is good to go and piling up on me. I havent run any in the truck yet. But the time is near.

Q's;

Are there any issues with this truck using B20 to B50?

Are my fuel lines of the compatible material?

How many filters should I have on hand, and how long does it take to cleans the old fuel system crud?
I'm sure that one varies.
What does the truck do when the filter clogs? Run crappy or just quit?
I've never let one go that far.

Can I do popular performance modifications to the truck?
I want to remove the turbo silencer and cat and run 3" pipe.

TIA
Brian

Brian:

If your fuel is well made and passes the 3/27 test then you are good to go. If this is your first go around then I would take the time to drop the tank and give it a good cleaning (also good time to check the sender unit and steel parts for corrosion). If you do it now, then the clean out cycle will be much shorter.

Typically on the 6.5, the engine looses response and feels doggy before it actually quits. Make it a point to use the water drain three or four times a week at first to check for drop out. Keep a spare (or three) filter on-board to be safe. You 96 should already have the Viton hoses so your good there.

B20-B50 should give you no problems and if you find your fuel passes all the QC tests, then even B100 is good. Only issue may be your optical sensor in the IP. Anything less then crystal clear bio and they seem to act up.

Happy motoring.

Bill,
Thanks for the quick response.
I guess it's just first time jitters.
I'm not so eager to drop the tank, Frown.

The fuel I've made is all combined in one vessel and had it tested at a commercial production plant.
The test results were excellent.

I hear B20 is optimal for performance.

Will do the water drain as you mentioned.

Thanks.

Weldshop

-I have a 1996 6.5 TD with 475,000 KM, it just loves B100 in the summertime. as far as being sluggish, if it's just dirty injectors, some B100 should fix that. you'll notice a much quieter engine after you change over and that puterid diesel smell will be gone! Big Grin
-and I agree with Bill, carry a spare filter or just change it out once a month for the first few months, there not that expenive. Tom
