I HAVE A 1998 SUBURBAN 6.5T, THAT RAN GREAT UNTILL I HAD A REMOTE STARTER INSTALLED. THEN IT GAVE ME ISSUES ON STARTING WHEN HOT,AND IT HAD HICCUPS ON THE HIGHWAY WHILE NOT UNDER CRUISE CONTROL MODE, NOTE THAT NO VEGGIE OIL WAS USED AT THE TIME.

THEN I HAD A REMOTE MOUNTED PMD, AND A GOLDEN FUEL SYSTEMS INSTALLATION A YEAR LATER. I RAN ONE TANK OF PROPERLY PROCESSED SVO, AND THEN DIESEL ONLY FOR SIX MORE TANKS.STATING ISSUES WHEN HOT WERE STILL AN ISSUE BUT THE HICCUPS WERE GONE ON THE HIGHWAY IN NORMAL AND CRUISE CONTROL MODE.SO, I THINK THE REMOTE PMD WAS A SUCCESS.

THE REMOTE START DEALER REMOVED MY REMOTE STARTER MODULE, AND I BEGAN FILTERING AND USING SVO IN THIS VEHICLE IN THE SAME MANNER AS I HAVE FOR THE PAST 4 YEARS IN MY 2000 FORD EXCURSION. TWO MICRON RACOR 1000 FILTRATION OUTSIDE VEHICLE AND 2 MICRON RACOR 900 FILTRATION ON BOARD VEHICLE.

STARTING WAS FINE FOR THREE TANKS OR SO, AND I STARTED GETTING CODES FOR OPTICAL SENSOR.

MY LOCAL DIESEL SHOP, (STANADYNE DEALER), ALSO READ THE CODES AND SUGGESTED A IP. I TRIED TO GET THEM TO ONLY INSTALL A PUMP WITH UT THE PMD BUT THEY REFUSED BECAUSE OF CALIBRATION JARGON.

ANOTHER STANADYNE DEALER A FEW MILES AWAY AGREED TO SELL ME A PUMP W/O THE PMD AND INSTALL IT.SO, I DROVE OVER AND DROPPED IT OFF, AND WAITED FOR THE BAD NEWS AND EXPENSIVE BILL.

TO MY SURPRISE , THEY CALLED AND SUGGESTED THAT THAT I ONLY INSTALL AN OPTICAL SENSOR, AND THAT MY BILL WOULD BE ABOUT A THIRD OF WHAT I HAD EXPECTED.

THEY DID JUST THAT AND INFORMED ME THAT SVO WILL COAT THE OPTICAL SENSOR AND THEY MUST BE REPLACED.
NO OTHER OPTIONS......

THE SUBURBAN RAN GREAT AND I CONTINUED RUNNING ABOUT SIX MORE TANKS OF SVO....SOME CANOLA AND SOME CHINESE DARK STUFF..ETC..

EVERYTHING WAS GRAND...THEN I HAD THE REMOTE STARTER UPDATED AND REINSTALLED.

SIX HOURS LATER WHILE ON A LONG DISTANCE TRIP AND STOPPING FOR A SERVISE STATION BRAKE, I STARED THE VEHICLE WITH THE REMOTE START, AND ACCIDENTLY TOUCHED THE BRAKE PEDAL BEFORE INSERTING THE KEY.

IT HAS BEEN HARD TO START SINCE THAT TIME AND THE CODES ARE THE SAME..OPTICAL SENSOR.


STANDYNE DEALER ANSWERS ARE THE SAME..CAN'T RUN ON SVO FOR THE OPTICAL SENSOR.


MY PLAN IS TO DO THE FOLLOWING...

PROPERLY REMOVE AND TROUGH AWAY THE REMOTE STARTER. THEN OPEN UP THE IP AND INSTALL A NEW OPTICAL SENSOR.


MY QUESTION TO ALL YOU GURU'S OUT THERE IS:

IS THERE A BETTER OPTICAL SENSOR ON THE MARKET ?

ARE THERE OTHER FIXES IN THE SYSTEM TO PREVENT FUTURE OPTICAL SENSOR FAILURES ?

DO PEOPLE JUST REPLACE THE IP, WHEN THEY JUST NEEDED TO REPLACE THE OPTICAL SENSOR ?

(DEALERS TELL ME YOU HAVE TO BENCH TEST AND CALIBRATE THE PUMP EACH TIME YOU REPLACE A SENSOR, BUT IF YOU SCRIBE IT ACCURATELY LIKE MY DEALER DID, THEN YOU DON'T NEED ALL THAT REMOTE MOUNTING BENCHTEST CALIBRATION)

BILL MCD, OF MANOTICK ONTARIO ALLUDED TO THE FACT THAT THE PORTS COULD BE MODIFIED TO ALLOW FOR WARM STARTS.
