Hi all,

The new version of the global vegetable fuel resources map has been launched.

www.oliomap.com

It looks pretty nice and you can also register list your own veggie drive on the community map to share some info.

Check it out

Is this any better or really any different from the resource over at www.fillup4free.com? That site has lost its direction -- everyone charges for oil these days, but at least you can see where they are. I've quit participating.

I always offer to pay for oil, but only one person has accepted any money from me for their oil. I have met several helpful people on the fillup4free site. I also am on there and I am happy to give my oil away.

Wow, the oilomap is really a great resource for people in Europe, isn't it. Well thought out and easy to navigate and all.

Regarding fillup4free, which I founded in 2005, "losing its way" dukegrad98, it's too bad that you've quit participating because the site has really started to grow and evolve. We now have over 4000 members, complete with live news feeds, equipment auctions, photo gallery, discussion forums, blogs, and more. It's not all about the map, which is still in a beta-release stage anyway.

Members are now participating in running the site and making it a better place, rather than complaining about it not working and leaving--for example.

I've spent the last year looking for a programmer that could take the map to the next level, and now I finally have some good leads to work with. The planned revisions for the map will make it way more useful and powerful. Once it is implemented.

Address the real issue. I'm aware that you are finally finding people to run the site for you. But that doesn't change that getting free oil is virtually impossible on your site. I'd know -- I covered 6000 miles and 10 states this summer. I did far better finding oil on my own than I did through the site.

Good luck improving it. I've given lots of thought to opening a competitor -- of course, it wouldn't really be competing, since at least some floor quantity of free oil would be a requirement. It's probably good for both of us that I'm way too busy for that right now.

Cheers, John

Yeah, from my road-trip experiences, I learned that it can be much harder to find postings of people with free oil than it is to network with people and then have them give you some as a kindness.

As the price of diesel has passed $4.25 in my area lately and nears $4.00 on the national average, it looks like fewer and fewer people are going to be willing to part with large quantities of free WVO to road-tripping greasers that they may never see again. The numbers of people with that are just drowning in too much oil are probably less than two dozen nationally that I know of.

Regardless of that fact, however, thank you for your kind and I'm sure genuine wish of good luck improving the map dukegrad98. If you ever have any real helpful suggestions or would like to actually help to improve the site, I'm open.
