Solar waterheating in South Florida is cheap at $3-5000. A tankless waterheater in South Florida is $350 installed. Which one is better?
That is a hard one. If you are in a condo a tankless takes up a lot less space. In a small house the same. On a large house you could potentially need two tankless and then the price doubles.
What if you had a standard waterheater tank and removed the heating elements. And replaced them with a solar water heating collector on the roof with a circulating pump and a solar panel to run the pump only when the sun is shinning. After the tank you could mount the tankless waterheater as a booster. If there is not hot water in the tank the tankless heats the water.
