Hello to everyone,

I am looking for some documentation/instructions on furnace conversion to SVO. To make a long story short, I just bought a house who has an 1998 oil furnace installed. I was actually looking into geting it out of the house and converting to Gaz(Gaz-Metro) and Electricity when my friend was suggesting me to investigate the "huille a patate" or "french fried oil" Smile

Well, I know I have the everything running on oil now, including whe watter hiter and an interior 950 liter oil tank.

My main inquiry are:

1- do I need to modify/change anything on the furnace or water hitter?
2-Can I mix both SVO and commercial furnace oil? (I still have 1/3 of the tank full with regular oil)
3-There is a supplier of SVO I spoke with who sais he can deliver any quantities in Montreal area for $0.40/Liter. Is this an ok price? I heard of $0.25...

Thank you for your assistance.
Regards,
Sebastian

HI, Im running a waterheater on b100. I had to adjust the air to allow more air into burner. But it runs great on it. You can produce b100 for around .35 a litre. I'm in owen sound ont I use my water heater to heat my 4000ltr veg oil bulk storage tank(milk tank). I'd recomend b100 it actually cleans the nozzle in the burner. My web site is www.greatfish.ca. Hope this helps.Greg.

This certainly helps Greg. Thanks a lot.

Did you had to clean the oil tank before starting to use b100? I still have about 1/3 of a tank with regular oil in it and would like to start testing with it now, before the winter comes Smile. So I guess my question is if it's safe to mix them?

...in he meanwhile, I better find some techical documentation for my furnace.

Regards,
Sebastian

envirodiesel,
This water heater, does it have a standing flame to lite the burner or a glowbar? May be a stupid question, but I have no experience with fuel oil burners.
I am asking because I am swapping my pellet stove for a fuel oil boiler and I have hear of issues with liting the burner via a glowbar on b100

No you don't need to clear your tank. But what will happen is you filter (if there isn't one put one on) will start to get plugged. It will just start to not suck oil. You will need to change your filter till it doen't plug up. Tanks Greg.

Pizzaman. Mine is a electronic becket burner. I think a glow bar but i don't know how to tell the dif.It doesn't have a flame running when its off. I did have to adjust the air on the side of the burner and i played with the pressure setting i turned it up a little. When i 1st started it it didn't want to stay running on b100. After i ajusted it it's been fine. 5 weeks 24/7 Smokes a litle black when it starts then turns clear for the rest of the burn. I wonder about the seals? (drips into the firebox?) When it breaks i'll fix it.

Thank you for the info. I have a couple months to start making biodiesel and play with this heater. would be nice to eliminate 400-500 per month heat bills to stay about 60 f all winter

I have an oil furnace and am wondering if I can use biodiesel in it. I have a newer 330 gallon tank in my basement that has a filter on it. I heard that the seals in the pump may need to be changed. Does anyone have any successful experience with this?

I am also thinking the same actually, whether it can really have a standing flame to light the burner or a glowbar or not.
