Thank you for the reply. Great info. Can you make a comparison on the loudness of the pump? Does it tick, humm...? And is that 5psi at idle or load?
Are they better at pushing the fuel or pulling? If the pump is load maybe it is better mounted in the rear of the vehicle instead of under the hood.
Cheers
A

Probably push better, I don't mind putting them up front as long as I am pushing through filter and valves (I have not tried one of these pumps in com loop so I don't know how they do under vacuum).
I have not seen any of these do better then 10 psi @deadhead, usually around 6 is the best I have seen at idle and depending on the vehicle, it will drop under load. I know they say they are rated for 11 psi, but do not expect to see that on the PSI gauge while running. There are obviously alot of variables when assesing pump performance so let us know what you find with your 6.5. They are a very robust little pump and is worth the $84.00, definately a better pump then that Carter.
Oh yea, they make a click click click sound that changes under demand and is suprisingly loud. Avoid mounting it to the firewall, you will here it inside.

If you are returning to the veg tank, mount it in the back.

will the FRB-5 stand Hot oil in a looped system? I had a 6065 that lasted around 40k, but early in Nov. it died :-(. I have been running since on just the stock lift pump. I run a 93 f250 7.3 NA. my looped return is done at the tank, I am looping back threw the filter. the oil temp is 160 to 180. returned and is tempered by warm oil from the tank.

Have any of you thought about the FRC-8, it is rated 28 gal/hr @ 9 to 12 PSI. the stock lift pump on a 7.3 is 22 gal/hr. my old 6065 would show 7psi max with a clean/new filter @ idle, drop to 3-4 under full throtle, I would change filters when drop was to less than 1psi.

Have any of you used the Mallory 70 or 110, on a looped veg. and if so how mwny miles so far?

I am thinking of trying the Mallory 70.

Aquaman, thanks for the compliment! Big Grin

B.K. Hosken, can you specify that coarser filter screen mentioned above? That sounds logical...

Thanks!

I will ask on this order about the 420 mesh screen Is it 420 mesh, or 420 micron?.

Walbro won't put the other screen in for you, you'll have to swap it out yourself since the pumps are already on the shelf. The screens are like $4. I believe they are 420 mic.
As you probably know, they are rated for B100, 150F, etc. I ran one for a while in the summer with fuel temps at about 195 in traffic and it did fine. Can't say for sure though, these are pretty new and I do not have any long term experience with them. Time will tell.

How is your group buy doing?

As I posted before my Walbro 6065 did about 40K, well I checked my log book and a posted wrong info.

I installed the 6065 on 2-1-07 and it failed on 10-18-07 with a total milage of 31,132. I had it plumed in a looped system to push threw my 10 Micro filter.

Not wanting to take the chance on a FORTH pump I bought a FASS from Golden Fuel. $356 deliverd. it came yesterday at 2 PM. installed it by 4:30PM. road tested for 25 miles with a smile from ear to ear.

At Idle it reads 13PSI on my pressure gauge, cruiseing 55MPH it holds 11 to 12 PSI, WOT for 4 minutes up a long grade just down the road from home it maintains 7PSI with the motor at 3200, and 79 MPH top speed in 3rd w/ E4OD tranny. motor loves it!

I believe it was money well spent and the only pump to use on VEG.

prior pumps run

1, Standydn Fuel manager w/ pump, (Small gearroter diesel pump unit mounted to the top of a fuel manager) Same as used by all the major companies for diesel motors.

2, Holly blue Clone. (would assist lift pump but would not pump veg on it's own. evetualy wouldnet come up to RPMs to more that a tricle on Veg.)Still use this pump as a Diesel transfer pump, pumps diesel great.

3. Walbro 6065, Great diesel pump but failed in just over 31K.

Ken In central NY

93 F250 , 7.3 NA, 58K on veg, 237 total.

FlyboyD8,

Hmmmm... well.. I sent my $$$ in for the group buy on the Walbros... NOW YOU TELL ME! Smile

I made a deal with my wife that I would spare no expense and make a bullet proof "no side of the road problems" system if she agreed to a diesel rather than a gas powered Nissian! We settled on the 1999 6.5TD Suburban! Sweet!

Thanks for the information on your pump, I will look into them, do you have anymore info on the pump other than the Golden Fuels propaganda?

I can always use the Walbro in my truck and keep a spare since according to my wife, I enjoy the "side of the road fix and go repair".

Hey BK Hosken,

Can you give me an approximate date to expect that pump, so I can mark it on my calandar? I'm not getting impatient or anything -- but I have a notoriously bad memory and get easily sidetracked with other matters and projects. I just want to have myself ready so when it arrives, I haven't gotten myself all covered up with other things that keep me from getting it in for several weeks... Roll Eyes

Thanks!

Actually, my furnace is in pretty tough shape right now. I tore it apart last weekend and need to replace the chamber, tube and burner head (and all gaskets ofcourse).
I have everything on order, I wish it all got here for this weekend, I have a Jetta in the shop and it is cold in there! (I have a back up Propane heater, but I'm too cheap to buy propane right now)

The furnace is a small 80K Btu down draft w/Becket burner installed upstairs in my shop. I was running it on a 75/25 veg/diesel blend. It worked OK and I have made alot of heat with veg, but it does need alot of baby sitting. Sometimes I have to start the thing on diesel and 2 tank it for best results.
I am running an HE in the plenum and a thermostatically controlled heated filter, running temps around 170F. Fuel can either return to tank or loop to inlet of filter.
I have learned alot more about running furnaces on SVO and need to make some changes, there are definately some better ways of doing it. I hope to get this thing dialed in better, alot of good info on altfuel furnace forum. One of the problems I have is that I have to adjust the flame if I am on the blend or straight diesel, if not I get alot of carbon - or cook the chamber. I do not have any pics at the moment, everything on my abondoned website is way out of date.

I swapped out a Carter pump and installed a Walbro in this 05 Jetta last night, runs at about 6psi at inlet to IP. Not a great night in the shop, was very cold, and then I made the mistake of leaving my tranfer pump hose unattended while I was fueling up the car. I went up front for just a minute and the hose slid out and made a helluva mess in the back of this guy's nice 05 Jetta wagon!
On that Walbro pump, I am looking forward to hearing how it works for others, I wish it maintained psi just a little better. I guess it's just the nature of a reciprocating pump.

The new Walbro is supposed to be better than the 6065, I just was just tired of experimenting.

I thought the FASS was common knowledge as "The PUMP". you can do a search of "FASS". What they make is a line serious fuel pumps.

For us veg users they couple thier HD 23 amp motor to thier small 95 GPH pump, they factory preset the presure of the pumps from 10 to 200 PSI depending on your need. Mine is listed by Golden as a 10 PSI, but my gauge shows 13 PSI w/ 175 F oil. It shows 13 psi @ idle from the time I throw the switch till I purge back to diesel. FASS has a 2 yr. warrenty on there pumps for veg, 5 for diesel.

My current veg filted has 1300 miles on it and the pressure to IP is what I want. As the pressure drops (from restricted filter) I will change filters when I can't hold 4+ PSI. at least that is the plan now. I should also mention that just prior to the IP I have a Napa/Purilator clear/Glass cleanable filter. that is a catch all from having a Vegatherm Mega in the system. I feel the little element that Purolator says is 40 micron is restrite. but it is in a easy place to see and Is easy to clean. It catches a suprisingly large amount os stuff, that has to be comming from the vegtherm.. I will never install another Vegtherm, I now bwlieve that a FPHE is the only way to go.

Bottem line on the price of a FASS,,,, its less that 100 gal. of pump diesel !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Long live all the IDI's

I'll second that motion... I have received my Walbro, and haven't found opportunity and good weather to coincide yet...

I'll be needing to acquire that courser inlet screen, too -- if anyone finds an easy source, I'd love to know about it.

Veg on!
