I use a Carter at the tank, and a Walbro 6065(new model # is FRB-5) in the engine bay. I JUST ordered 5 of the Walbro pumps as a group buy, they are supposed to work well on veggie but I haven't tried one yet. The old 6065 is working well, though. Not sure on the Holley pump.

B.K Hosken,
You use TWO pumps before the IP! Wow! Do they operate off the same switch? Are the the samePSI? I have a Hose-in-Hose (HIH) system coming from my tank, so ...in order to put a pump there I would need to seperate the coolant and grease, put the grease through the pump and then connect back into the HIH set up. Hmmm... maybe just make two fittings into and out of tank and then into the HIH? How much was the Walbro? I will read up on them. Have you heard anything about them on this forum? Thanks for the help! Chris |

B.K. Hosken,
Thanks for the tip. I read up on the Walbro FRB-5. Are you sure that the pressure rating is good for the Suburban? I thought the system was designed for a 4-7 PSI? The FRB-5 is rated for 8-11 PSI. I will investigate more. If this is what I want, are you interested in selling any of the 5? Thanks, Chris |

I've got the Walbro FRB-5 pump on my 7.3 IDI which is alot like your engine. I've been really happy with mine. It runs both the Diesel and WVO system and when on veggy it pull through a racor filter and the factory 6 port switch.

I do switch both pumps at the same time, on the same switch (relay). The FRB-5 is rated for 8-11, but pumping thicker WVO I figure it's going to slow a little. I think the Carter is about a 10 psi, and that's what I think the stock pump is rated, too.

Guys,
OK I am giong to get a FRB-5. I just bought a cheapy at Auto Zone today that is rated at 4-7 PSI. It only costs 30 bucks and I will safe that in diesel in 3 days. B.K. can you shoot me some picks of your system and a schematic? I am thinking about my current system in my 1993 6.5 TD truck and how I can improve it. Also I know I have to cool the PMD in the 1999. How do you cool yours? Also, I think a lift pump at the tank is a good idea. I have to make a tank that fits under the Suburban, where is yours mounted. Thanks, Chris |

I didn't have a schematic when I started mine...still don't. If you want an FRB-5, you can get in on the next group purchase, I got in 5 and will be mailing them out tomorrow, but I can order another batch, since I forgot to get myself one!
I put in hose on hose 5/8" heater hose to the tank and back. I have a 16 plate FPHE epoxied to the front of the tank, the Carter pumps from there thru 3/8" aluminum fuel line to the engine bay, there it hits the Walbro pump and a 26 plate FPHE, then thru a Permacool filter (2 micron, $40) with a 5/8" heater hose wrap, then T's into the IP feed line. I only have one valve, and it's for the return. The whole thing is controlled by a VOControl controller, fully automated. I bought the HeathDiesel new PMD, relocator kit and heat sink, pricey at $500 but guaranteed for 7 years. My tank is mounted underneath along the frame rail on the driver's side, here's a pic of it from the front outside, you can see the edge of the body/door. This message has been edited. What is the price on the FRB-5's? I would like to get 2 if we can get the order rolling soon. Do you think ordering a back up is necessary? How about having two of them on one system? One near the tank, the other just after the input valve but before my FPHE. I have a FPHE but have yet to install it! I also like the veg-therm. My MB has a veg-therm just before the IP. I appreciate the pics! What size tank is that? |

I think the FRB-5 is good enough to go by itself, but I have not played with them too much. I have gotten 2 others wanting a pump, so i will give it another week and make another order. They will be $82 each if you mail the money, or $85 by Paypal. I didn't quite break even on the last order, so I have to bump up the price a little.

Hey, could I get one on this order, too?? I have a stock lift pump (one each side) on both the Diesel and WVO circuits -- and have never felt like the stock design was quite robust enough for the WVO. I'd love to get in on this order, if possible... Thanks, Drizzle ________________ '99 Suburban 2500 -- Heath remote PMD, PlantDrive kit with: HotFox (in stock 42gal tank for WVO), 16-plate FPHE (winter was proving a bit tough on my WVO filter, given that it's only head-heated), VorMax 2-stage filter, Stock-style lift pump dedicated to WVO (heavier duty version from Heath Diesel), 2nd 16-plate FPHE, VegTherm Mega, Pollak 6-port motor-driven valve, looped return on WVO. Over 40,000 miles on WVO and RUNNING GREAT! :-) See more here: http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/garage.php?do=view&g=3908 |

Will the Walbro allow the fuel to flow even if it dies? Drizzle, nice truck. I have a 99 also running Bio. Cheers A |

The Walbro FRB5 will flow through when off. When purchasing these, make sure you get the 420 mic intake screen, the one that comes in the pump is too fine and will clog very quickly. The 420 mic screen is the coursest offered and still meets warranty requirements. also know that these pumps are pretty loud, mounting them on rubber (and running separate ground) may help.
They are a very good quality pump though, seem pretty much indestructable, I just wished they maintained PSI a little better. Expect around 5PSI w/ your 6.5 300TD Samurai Veggen WVO shop heat |
