No need to get upset.

First of all patent rights cannot be usually be successfully applied to individuals using a process non-commercially. By applied I mean charged to use.

And second of all it is (nearly) impossible to enforce a patent which uses a process that has been in the public domain for as long as settling or filtering wvo has.

One may apply for such a patent..and it might even be granted...but it will for all practical purposes be valueless and unenforcable.
