Just performed an injector cleaning using Lubro Moly Diesel Purge. This was on a 02 TDI with a first generation Greasel kit (IMO a kit that does not heat up oil well)The user was very promiscuous in the past thinking it was really cool to not have to purge on warm summer nights and doing cold oil starts in the morning. Also marginal filtering process and no dewatering. After about 3-4 years the car started running poorly, blew a turbo or 2 and then just running on low power and shaking alot under load. Amazingly enough good compression on all 4 cylinders. Lubro Moly Diesel Purge cleaned up the pump and injectors and alleviated the symptoms. Highly recommended. It takes a while (35 minutes plus) to complete, but worth in the end. The car runs great again. Good stuff. He no longer is promiscuous with his oil use and I think he needs to add a FPHE to his sytem for better heat.

I wonder how different this product is versus just running new ATF fluid through the system for 20 minutes.

I used Diesel Purge last August when I got the Benz. I noticed no difference at all, but VO had never been run in it yet. Might be a good idea to run some again.

Yes, using Diesel Purge can be helpful. - http://www.dieselgiant.com/injectorcleaning.htm

Pouring in a pint or so of naptha in the tank that just has few gallons of diesel left ,then driving it hard works pretty well too .

BTW, convince him to add that FPHE soon before the ring coking gets worse .

There is another item that should be done to the '02 and '03 TDI's. Clean the intake manifold and intercooler. The EGR valve recirculates the oil vapors into the intake where they condense and form a sludge. A simple test is to remove the rubber hose going into the intake and wipe your finger inside. if it comes out coated with oil, then you have a problem. The amount of junk that came out of my intercooler was amazing. My intake was coated with 1/4" of curd that had accumulated on the inside. The car could not breathe. It is a days work, but worth it. Dieselgeek will sell a kit for the EGR that will eliminate the problem. This is a design problem, it has nothing to do with WVO or not. Even if you never ran WVO in the car, it would still do the same thing.

Yes sir, It is important, the 02 has had both cleaned and after the diesel purge is running like a top. My 03, when I purged it showed no difference either, but it was running great, I did not expect any noticeable improvement. This august I will do the manifold and intercooler cleanout. The car shows no real signs of decreased performance, but it's gooey in there for certain.

OK, 2 helpful things I actually know about this. One is a great description on how to use Lubro Moly Diesel Purge effectively, from the guys ove at TDIClub: http://forums.tdiclub.com/show...+diesel+purge+how+to

Another thing is EGR reduction. My mechanic did this to my ECU for me, down to the lowest allowable limits: http://www.tdiclub.com/TDIFAQ/TDiFAQ-7.html#g See section 7j.

I just noticed that TDIParts sells this diesel purge with all the necessary connections to the fuel lines. Couldn't be easier.

Now this has me thinking. With my setup, the LiquiMoly Diesel Purge will go through 2 of my 3 valves - I think - I don't have the diagrams infront of me. And, as it turns out, I have a leaky/gummy loop valve that is sending some diesel back to the veg tank.

I wonder if the diesel purge will have an effect - good or bad - on the those valves if run according to the TDIclub guys. It's difficult to find out what exactly is in the product, and how it might affect poly or valve seals or otherwise.

Here are some quotes from websites:

"Powerful cleaning action removes deposits from injectors, pistons and combustion chambers."
"Cleans the entire fuel system."

It will be very interesting to see what ends up in that little inline fiter afterwards.

I've only purged on the diesel fuel side. I suspect that you could set it up to purge the VO side too. I don't see why it would not cleanup everything in it's path.... It take quite sometime to use it up. Plenty of exposure time for cleaning and dissolving the schmootz...(a technical term for built up deposits) Big Grin

Well, if that's the case, this could be a way of avoiding removal of valves for cleaning - the "yearly diesel purge". I'll let you know how it goes.
