Bronx, NY - The Center for Sustainable Energy at Bronx Community College (BCC) of The City University of New York has organized a training session on how to fuel diesel engines with cooking oil. The sessions will be open to the public and held at Automotive High School in Brooklyn from 6 PM to 8 PM each Thursday evening in June. Automotive High School is located at 50 Bedford Avenue.
The 10-hour training will be given by Tom Cassino, ASE (Automotive Service Excellence, National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation)-certified instructor at Automotive High School. He has been teaching automotive technology for 20 years and for the past three conducting sessions for AHS students on WVO conversions. The workshop is an introduction that should enable mechanically inclined persons to either perform their own conversions, or get enough knowledge about it to make smart choices on whether to have someone perform a conversion for them, or purchase a vehicle that has already been converted. Fuel supply and filtering issues will also be addressed. Waste cooking oil is typically available from restaurants.
The Center for Sustainable Energy, established in 2003 at Bronx Community College of The City University of New York, was funded with a Congressional appropriation sponsored by The Honorable Jose E. Serrano and administered through the U.S. Department of Energy. The mission of the Center is to promote the use of renewable and efficient energy technologies in urban communities through education, training, workforce development, research and project facilitation. The Center supports clean energy development and energy conservation as the means to protect the environment, enhance public health and position New York City to capture emerging economic development opportunities in the energy sector.
The 10-hour training session has a registration fee of $150. For more information, call the Center for Sustainable Energy (718) 289-5332 or e-mail mail@csebcc.org
