Well, I'm stuck until I can find a pump/motor. I bought a pump on ebay because I got it cheap. See it here http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item...=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=007

According to their chart, 1/3 hp will produce about the right pressur+ gpm. I just need to find a motor that will fit the tang shaft it has. I have been to Lovejoy and not found one. I have found a carbonator motor that has a short shaft with a notch that looks like it will fit the tang on my pump. Anyone have any knowledge of carbonator pumps? This is a clockwise turning pump, does that mean I need a CCW turning motor?

If anyone can find a pump/motor combo already assembled, for a reasonable price I would be interested. I have been searching ebay with little luck.

HELLO,

IF CONSIDERING A MOTOR/PUMP OPTION WOULD CARBONATOR WITH PROCOR PUMP DO THE JOB. THEY SEEM TO BE PERFECT IN THE WAY THAT THEY GENERATE UPTO 250 PSI AND FLOW RATES OF AN AVERAGE 2'SH GPM

WOULD THIS WORK WHEN USED ONLY THE PUMP/MOTOR?

Yes that would work but vane pumps are not as good as gear pumps because after they sit with VO in them, the vanes can stick causing it to quit working. Several have reported this problem with vane type power steering pumps.

Here is a better pump, its the same one I use:

that seller does not ship to canada, i am sure grainer ship to canada. there are several modals at different prices. does anyone know of a good pump at a reasonable price?

can the vane pump be modified to limit the sticking like a cleaning after each use or cleaning smaller batches?

what kind of cleaning solution can be used to circulate through the pump to clean it?

tia

I think rotary vane pumps are okay as long as you purge the gunk out by running a little bio or dino after cycling your wvo. The idea is to wash the particles away before shutdown. Using stainless vanes rather than composite vanes should offer more positive seal as the stainless is heavier than the polymer composites and should generate greater G-forces under speed.

Generally. gear pumps are used for mainly hydraulic applications - pumping viscous liquids and can pump at high pressures . (see - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gear_pump ) . Gears pumps could be used in a variety of applications. - a few examples - http://www.oberdorfer-pumps.com/applications.htm

the specs on those gear pumps seem overkill.

they have an average of 3000psi/3000'sh rpm; what would the pully ratio's have to be when using 1725rpm motor?

You are right, but overkill sure beats underkill. I like their prices. www.northerntool.com also had decent prices on gear pumps.

Regarding psi, whether you use an automotive pump like a small bloch chevy motor oil pump or one of the power steering pumps, pressure still needs to be regulated somehow. This means that unless the pump has a bypass valve, a bypass regulator is a good idea. It's possible to control psi by calculating it based on pump displacement and rpm (or something like that).

I'm not sure how Sunwizard and the others regulate pressure on a pump that lacks a bypass valve. Since the fluid dynamics that are engineered into a relief valve take flow into account, I'm not sure how accurate using a relief valve to regulate pressure would be. Cracking pressure opens the valve, but flow is related to the valves operation also.

www.fisherregulators.com has a nice selection of regulators.

I thought you didn't want a vane pump. Did you change your mind?

i picked up a carbanotor kit from the local flee market and only found out later of the type of pump it had; all i looked at was the specs.

but now i see i can use the pump for a few batches and clean it thoroughly and be on the lookout for a better pump at a reasonable price as the occassion arises.

A small one gallon tank full of diesel can be plumbed into the system so you can use a 3 way valve to draw diesel through your pump at the end of your cleaning cycle to wash the gunk out of your vane pump. You already need to use a valve to redirect the CF output at shutdown to avoid contamination draining from the rotor back into the clean oil. Why not just buy 2 valves and set things up so you can wash your vane pump clean at the end of each batch? It's a cheap solution.

yeeeeeeeesssssssss welder................

i have T and ballvalve setup to redirect the last oil in the CF but my thinking is limited to one thought per setup but now u have just added another.

Sorry, buddy! I didn't mean to drive you bonkers.

The only reason I kept suggesting that you use your carbonator motor is that Pumpbuilder told me that some of his customers use rotary vane pumps to transfer wvo. This flies in the face of traditional svo pump theory as the standard belief is that the vanes eventually gum up with crud. Pumpbuilder said that purging the pumps will wash the vanes and keep the pump alive.

I was just trying to save you some money.

welder....

your advice and others is always welcome. the more ideas thrown the better and who knows how many others it can help if they are facing the same situation.

my first setup will be with the vane pump and when i find a gear pump i will keep it as a backup.

Well, I finally got a oberdorfer 991R, so I am set with a pump. Anyone know if this pump: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=018&ss...em=280124640735&rd=1

will fit? Info sheet on the oberdorfer says it will fit a 48 frame which the motor is, I may just need an adapter of some sort. Or should I wait until I have the pump in my hands before buying a motor. Only trouble is I still can't test fit the pump without the motor also. What do you all suggest? I'd really like to get this going!

Thats a good pump. It probably requires an adapter to attach to a motor. Search the dieselcraft thread, there is a post there with a source for the adapters.
