here is a picture of what i have done, nothing special but effective. filtered a smaller batch and no or not visible with my eye any suspended wanter.

just in case i am doing something wrong on the hotpan test. i heat a skillet to about 350F and add the oil - naturally the temp will drop after the oil is emptied so i allow the temp to increase again an no visible boubles at all this time. CF was filtering the oil at 194F when i did the test and filtered for 9 hours total.

did not raise the pressure past 80 psi in the process.
any comments?

It really does. Dave at IDP who sells the Centrifuge (the number was given earlier in the post), told me this was a British Pipe Thread to USA conversion. I don't know... We'll see. I think their is not much of a difference. USA pipe thread has one less thread per inch as I can tell.

How are folks sealing the water heaters into the pipe?

I've got teflon added thread compound (pipe dope), but I want to only do this once. I don't want leaks. Any suggestions?

I must correct something I said earlier. I stated that I did not receive the adapter with my Spin Clean. That was incorrect I did in fact.

However:
This is what I ordered from mcmaster:

5832T122
(Same as 5832T2)
BSPT-to-NPT Std-Wall Brass Thrd Pipe Nipple 1/4" Pipe Sz, 1-1/2" L, Threaded Both Ends, Sch 40

British pipe thread for the CF, npt for our pipes, and it works perfectly. And McMaster had it to me the day after I ordered it.

its standard hose 1/4 npt, i brought the CF to the plumbing shop and that was it.

this also reminds me of the time when first made the firts big order on the fphe's. they were supposed to come with british threads and Dana retapped his in order to for the npt's to fit but i did not have that problem. i was able to tighten the npt fitting to 2 full turns and no leaks.

maybe i am so eager to get things happening that i dont play close attention to the FULL scope of the matter. even if it leaks one day i only filter every 3 - 4 weeks so a drop hear and there wont make a difference to me; the oil is only going to go back in the drum anyway!!

btw, it really, really hard to find anything past the standard here in Montreal ; this plumbing place is the only place i have seen to have liquid filled psi gauges, i could not find adjustable relief valves actually thats a lie the one shop that had wanted close to $100 for ONE so had to get one off of ebay.

did i mention my oil is super dry. so worth the money and so easy to setup its a joke.

hope this helps.

I am having difficulty finding the parts to connect my pump (Oberdorfer 991R) to my motor (AO Smith 1/3hp carbonator). The pump has a recessed shaft. I am ordering the adapter kit as soon as I find a source but I think that will only allow me to mount the pump on the motor, it will not connect the shafts. How have you all done this? Both the output shaft of the motor, and the input shaft of the pump have a large notch cut in the end. I have been to lovejoy and have not found a coupling that looks like it would work. Will the carbonator motor not work with this pump? Help! I want to get my spin clean going!

Just curious, has anyone yet tried using an automotive oil pump , like the $15 GM small block V8 Melling M-55 (with the bypass plunger locked down) coupled to to 1/3 or 1/2 hp motor ) to run their Dieselcraft / Spinclean rig ? It would seep a little around the shaft but it could be mounted over the barrel .

(I use one of those pumps connected to drill for a transfer pump - http://biodiesel.infopop.cc/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/919605551/m/8091082281/p/2)

Carbonator motors need a special coupler, here is some on ebay for $5

Hopefully your pump is designed for that same size coupler. My oberdorfer 991 uses a lovejoy coupling on a shaft so couldn't be used with a carbonator motor, yours sounds different.

I just got my rig set up and running. What a job it was to get done too. I bought a feeder funnel and welded it to the bottom of a 55 gal drum, all my piping is rigid piping, no hoses. I tried using a flat heating element, which I welded to a 1-1/4 to 1" bushing and screwed it into a 1-1/4 tee, its leaking a bit, I will have to do some touch up welds on it.

I am running my first batch right now, I can hear my rig hum from inside the house. I will get some pictures up soon.

what are people using for transfer pumps? I got one of the harbor frieght 1" water pumps to try, but I have had no luck with it so far.

Since I posted that previous message , I recently requested a quote from them and it looks like the price went up from $ 170 USD shipped . They quoted : FF25LE (no valve) - $185 , FF60LE (no valve) - $ 299 , + $10 shipping . At this point I would buy a Dieselcraft OC20 instead of the FF25 because it has the valve and Dieselcraft's proven customer service to folks here . The FF60LE still seems like good deal for the price .
