The 82 Caddy i just bought had been previously equiped with these heaters that have since been removed. I would like to find the manufacturer of a replacement filter for the one on the left. The one on the right uses the stock filter. An extra fuel pump was also included with the kit.
I plan on on running this single tank system east of San Diego CA. Where its 75-100 degrees for 10 months out of the year. Any tips for running this setup or the name of the original manufacturer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks 83 Rabbit Truck WVOfilters.jpg (23 KB, 60 downloads) |

Serioualy consider switching to a simple two tank conversion.
Not hard to do on a Caddy. Make certain that you only use wel filtered and dewatered wvo. If you need links to how to do that ask. Install a smaller micron filter to protect your IP. Re-placing that would pretty much wipe out the fuel cost savings for a very long time. Have your injectors tested right now. If they are not functioning 100% on this engine (especially with a single tank conversion) the engine life is severely decreased. If you decide to not switch to a two tank cnversion..get higher capacity injector line heaters. Thanks for the replies everyone. After looking up this company online it sounds like my engine is a time bomb. Someone i've spoken with that has used the kit says they havn't had any problems. I think i'll run it and find out. I can't justify spending more on a kit than the car is worth.
Does anyone care to explain how this kit slowly destroys the engine (according to the link on dana's page)? Is it due to the poor filter or because it is a single tank system, or something else? Could starter fluid be used during very cold mornings as a temporary fix? I've read that not having a fuel return loop could cause air to develop in the lines (or something? yeah i'm still new to VO) is there a low cost or quick roadside solution for this problem? Thanks for reading. 83 Rabbit Truck |

If you want to continue with a simple single tank system then read the articles here
http://www.burnveg.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=554 and use blended fuels as many have with great success: http://biodiesel.infopop.cc/ev...s/a/frm/f/9751014871 Keep in mind that those who say that two tank systems are the only way, either sell conversion systems, or are myopically committed to 100% VO as the One True Way. Think outside the box, or follow the herd, it's your choice. --.- ..- . ... - .. --- -. / .- ..- - .... --- .-. .. - -.-- '89 Toyota 3.4L TDI + FPHE BD+ULSD+VO+JetB blends |

Get a block heater and use it. Cold starts are the problem. Injector line heaters also help for that. An electrically heaated filter will also help.

240V is correct. Avoid cold starts that produce any noticeable exhaust smoke. My truck has an engine coolant heater and a battery blanket heater across the injectors, which give clean 'cold' starts every time, even in sub-zero temperatures.

You may wish to read a little about the Elsbett One Tank System.
http://www.elsbett.com/us/elsb...y/cars-and-vans.html They do use their own injectors. Essentially their design is to keep the glow plugs and an electric oil filter heater element turned on until the car reaches "operating temperature". Part of the point about a 1-tank system vs a 2-tank system is that if the majority of your driving is short trips (less than 10 miles), then the "warm-up" & "purging" can be a significant part of one's driving. |

Injectors similar to Elsbetts are easily available. There are even heated ones available in europe.

Farmer:
my 2 cents: Given you don't want to spend more on a kit than the car is worth, simply install a FPHE and a marine ball hand pump in series before the stock filter. You'll get heated SVO most of the time for very little cost. Total cost will be about $125. 1-tank Elsbett VW TDI , 115,000 SVO miles. http://ctbiodzl.freeshell.org/votdi.html and a '92 F-250 with only a FPHE |
