I noticed that very few of the tank options presented had low point drains.

I made my tank out of a 37 gallon NH pickup bed unit. I welded a 2" nipple to the bottom of the tank, cut out the hole inside of the nipple with a torch and then screwed in my own hot stick design. This does require about a 3" hole in pickup/vehicle bottom.

My hot stick is made out of standard black iron plumbing, some brass valves and a hose connections. The heated part consists of a 1/2" pipe inside of a 1" pipe. The 1" pipe is capped and welded so it will not leak. Heated engine coolant flows up the 1" pipe and is returned down the center through the 1/2" pipe. The fuel exits out of a 2" T with reducers that is located below the pickup bed. The hot stick runs up through the 2" T so the fuel is warm rather quickly. Then there is a low point drain below the pickup. It is very reassuring to take a fuel sample from the drain and see nice clear fuel.

Aluminium is surely the ideal tank making material. It is light, easy to work, inert to vege oil, rust free and the same material as aluminium piping (funnily) so no corrrosion due to dissimilar metals. Here's mine Tank & pickup

Once I finally get mine finished, I will post a picture or 2. I don't have a lower point in the tank like a sump, but I tilted my tank so the low point is the front inside corner, closest to the pickup.

No it is 12mm OD tubing. It is a bit of an awkward size as 1/2" coolant hose is a bit loose on it and hard to seal. I got it from an aluminium supplier and bent it by hand. It was cheap tho about $2 per metre.

JB weld tank!
http://greasebenz.com/node/4
A tank heater was designed using a 60" long gas appliance connector. The connector is inserted into the tank and coiled around the fuel pickup screen. Hot coolant is run though the connector, thus heating the fuel pickup and melting congealed SVO on sub-zero mornings

I actually like the idea of a fuel tank under the hood. .......but not that tank.....

My very first grease vehicle (1980 Audi 4000) had an 8 gallon grease tank with a heated sump under the hood. There was a huge amount of space under the hood and I needed the trunk.

Since then I have done several conversions with a small diesel tank under the hood.
