First off I don't use WVO other than convert it to biodiesel. However I find myself cleaning it with a 'fuge for friends. When I am done cleaning I put it in cubies and always get a layer on the bottom which I assume is mostly fat. Since the WVO is fuged hot I assume there is no way to avoid that layer other than pouring off the clear oil after it cools.

My question is will this fat be a good thing to pass along to friends assuming they have heated two tank systems. I understand a non heated single tank would not be a good idea unless in hot weather.
Thanks

I run lots of PHO & fats about half the time and it works good but you must be sure they have a well heated 2 tank rig. Some (like greasecar) can't handle it. Although you are in a very warm climate compared to me so thats less of a problem.

Or you could settle in cubies first then pour off the clear for your fuge.

I can use PHO and fats effectively since both my vehicles use a Hot Fox, but being fortunate enough to be picky about my oil I don't pick up PHO in the first place and give away my fat laden oil.

Thank you Sun, I don't know if any use Greasecar but will ask. What is it about that system that fats don't work so well?

Hhay, I do settle using a modified upflow system but still get some fats. The oil I get is very good but I am contracted to take it all.

It has no FPHE, just a filter and tank heater. This makes it take a long time to get the tank hot enough for PHO/fats to pass the filter since its heating the entire tank instead of just the VO before its consumed.

Raften,

I have the same situation here. My only source is the city hospital and the quality is horrible. It is like 1/3 - 1/2 PHO and the rest regluar canola. some pretty nasty chunks too. I can't believe a hospital uses cardiovascular damaging Hydrogenated fats for anything. Don't get me wrong i appreciate the oil. But it would probably be better for BioD. I do the best to let it settle in the cubies. and then centrifuge it. on the last batch it just had a very small layer of pho or fats at the bottom. It's run pretty good so far. I have a homade HE/fuel pickup and a 20 plate fphe HOH. I guess it heats it pretty good so far down into the high 20's. I'm looking to have an aluminum tank made with coolant loop. I'm a little concerned about contaminating the diesel with PHO or animal fat. that could probably cause trouble for cold days in the stock tank. My last batch i added a little diesel and .1% acetone and will probably put in a little kerosene. I hope it helps dissolve some of it. I'm heading up to michigan so I will be testing it in the cold for the first time.

I want to get off grid!
