The wimpy single coil exchanger on the left is the stock cooler on the MKIV tdi...

The middle cooler is a stock gasser V6 4motion Passat oil cooler, which appears to be identical to the Dieselgeek oil cooler. I used to have a Dieselgeek OC on my auto and it bolts right up. I've confirmed the V6 the 4motion Passat will also bolt up as well. It should be noted that although it bolts right up, it stresses the coolant lines a bit, as they aren't long enough to connect to the lower connectors on the cooler. I belive Oldpoopie discussed how difficult it is get that the little booger in place a while back.
Dieselegeek sells these for $210 complete, which isn't a bad price. If you know a good parts counter, you can get everything for about $185 new.

The part numbers you'll need are:
028117021E OIL COOLER (should come with upper gasket)
038117061 LOWER COVER TO OIL COOLER WITH SEAL

Now, the big daddy on the right is the oil cooler from a 04 130HP PD Passat. It will bolt right up as well, as Lito has been running it for a few weeks now. The coolant connectors sit on top of the cooler... you can either trim your coolant lines about 2 inches, or leave them long (just zip tie the excess). Install is a snap according to Lito.

All the parts you need can be gotten for about $200 from vwparts.com (call Jerry!), or any other parts vendor out there that you know and trust.

038117021B OIL COOLER
038117061 LOWER COVER TO OIL COOLER WITH SEAL
038117070B SEAL

There ya go...
Oil cooling options for all.

So is anyone using a tube in hose, heated filter wrap/coiled heat exchanger? The bending would be too much for aluminum, but copper should take it. I'm going to use the filter wrap (ala Dana) when I convert my 98 jetta, and figured why not make it hose in hose at the same time? I know some people hate HIH, some love it, some hate copper, others swear by it, but that isn't what I'm asking about. I just want to know if using the heated filter wrap as a coiled heat exchanger has merit and/or has been done before and what were the results.

thanks much

Trying to get there (WVO 100%) with my 83 mb 300sd. Anyone found any AC/DC heat tape? Seems you could wrap it anywhere (or everywhere)and use the house current for extra cold morning starts.

Also am considering an xtra battery in the truck, hooked to a quick filtering system for road trips (stop for a burger, drain their grease trap, dump the two filters, clean the sump screen)

Any leads? I can only find ac tape for preventing pipe freezing.

Thanks Rpman, I have spoken to Marcus also but like you are not completely convinced. I have a older landcruiser which is very robust but of simple design. My concerns are based around the idea that glowplugs are not designed for this purpose/ wvo being injected into a cold engine/hot wvo going into a cold ip. My plan would be to only use the glowplug heaters during the startups. When the engine comes up to temp a coolent flat plate heat exchanger would then take over providing the fuel heat as the glowplug heaters are thermostat controlled. Marcus does not have the fphe in his single tank system kit but I'm going to add this to take pressure of the glowplug heaters and the power draw required to run these heaters. The injector pipe heaters would cut in and out as required to maintain the correct temp at fuel injection. Marcus has a nissan patrol which he converted to a duel tank system. He added his injector pipe heater system later and started using both tanks for wvo. Marcus claims to have used this system for 12 months with no problems.
The benefits of the Australian climate help greatly but is it enough to stop hot fuel shock to the ip pump? Reading the horror stories about breaking pump shafts etc from this is a concern to me. The other main concern is injecting hot wvo into the cold combustion chamber at startup. Will there be ample burn to stop carbon build up on the bore walls/ piston tops and ring gaps? Will running a blend of say 10-20% dino deisel with the wvo ensure a clean burn?
Once again thanks Rpman for your comments and I would be intrested to hear more about your conversion and how its going since we are from the same climate/ state etc. Also I would still like some others from this forum to comment if they have the time and/or intrest. Like Rpman I am open to purchasing a single tank system from outside Australia, froggo.

Well I can't say anything bad about this filter except the size, it is about 18" tall. I don't think there is a vehicle out there besides a semi that could fit this under the hood. Mine is mounted behind the back seat of my truck (as we see in this pic) It is coolant and electric heated. I have used this filter in -40C weather. The filters last very long and aren't that expensive.
I bought it off this guy s www.svocomponents.com but doesn't seem like it works anymore.
