Well Chris since the kids already cut a hole in the top of their tank for a heater I think they'll most likely use it for the veggie tank... But I would say that your offer to provide a second tank for the area behind the bumper is nice and one they should take you up on... even if they decide to use it for diesel...

quote:
The tank I place in the vehicle is for vegetable oil, you know the stuff you can buy at Safeway and take home in a paperbag, the stuff which does not give off cancer casuing fumes, the stuff that is even less flammable than diesel.

Not trying to be difficult, but the tank you installed inside the car is for fuel and I doubt that the law makes any exception for the type of fuel that's placed in the tank so technically you may be in violation of the law....even though I agree that the likelyhood of a VO fire is very very remote... you may want to consider that when the car is sold someone who may not know better may decide to put diesel in the aux tank ...

If it was more fun everyone would be doing it!

Hey my name is Brandon and im working on the diesel tank fabrication team. Our aluminum tank placment is going right behind our reenforced trailer hitch and it is made outta 3/16" aluminum and it looks a lot like omars picture he provided in one of his privious post on page 3. It holds just under 9 gallons.

Thanks Brandon

Hi Brandon,

So you are locating the diesel tank outside passenger compartment behind the stock tank? Glad to hear this.

Matt,

I am not sure I understand your question.
Doyou mean larger diameter..or thicker walled hose?

Is the cut out your pointing to for the diesel tank a cut out of the floor board of the wagons rear floor or??? Will the tank top be under anything or will it protrude up into the inside of the car orr?

If you believe you can't YOUR RIGHT;

But equally so.... if you believe you can, YOUR RIGHT as well.

how are you going to fill the diesel tank? you should think about a screen in the diesel tank or a filter after the tank ... before it gets to your pre filter ... just a thought O

I have found that it is usually best to remove the outlet screen when converting stock mercedes tanks to VO tanks. They tend to be pretty restrictive even when completely clear...and usually when heated VO is introduces to older diesel tanks all of the accumulated crap loosens and quickly clogs it. Considering how difficult it can be to remove and prelace or clean later...I suggest removeing it now..cutting off the screen portion and reinstalling it. This will mean that you will want some cheap clear plastic (fram) disposable filters in the VO line before the fuel pump. Buy a case unless you plan to remove the tank and have its inside presure washed as part of the conversion process.

News flash: Craig Reece and Dana Linscott agree about something! Is this an example of Holiday Spirit or What?

We remove the screens when we do a conversion.

Hello All,
We've got a great start to the project with alot our major components currently being built or already in place. The discussion here has been great for the students to use as both a reference guide and to view different WVO perspectives. As xmas break roles up we are starting to regroup and take on new challenges of the conversion. This meaning a new breed of questions will appear.
I've let the students take care of posts on the forum and have pretty much given them the ball to run with. Thanks for the quick replies and answers. I have gotten alot of positive feed back on the project from both inside the district and the general public, including other tech ed teachers wanting to do a conversion . We're going to be putting up more pics and continuing to add to the blog. All run by the students. Thanks again for working with us. Keep checking in.
