Have any of you provided anything to a restaurant to help them move hot oil from the fryers to your barrel or dumpster outside? I have found that commercial collectors usually provide a cart of sorts which mates up safely to their dumpster for a splash-free "pour" into the container. Some of my locations have mentioned that it's much harder to get the oil into my barrels than it was into the squatty square dumpsters they used to have.

I've thought about providing something like the "Fat Boy" collector for them: http://www.machintsls.com/

Anybody used one of these? Or designed a homemade gadget for similar purposes? Tips appreciated, as I want to keep things convenient for one of my very best sources.

Cheers, John

My sources dump their hot oil into an aluminum pot to cool, then pour it into a bucket funnel straight into cubes.

i fasten a long (2 foot) wire to a funnel which they place in as required and hangs on the side of the barrel when not in use. sometimes they leave it in the bung and collect alot of rain though. i also provide empty pails as required if they need one to cool the oil in. george

I use my version of the Fat Boy, looks just like it but costs a lot less. 30 gallon drum, HF hand pump, and HF dolly.

Freaky!

I was just looking these things up for a friend who wants to out the commercial collectors from a Primo oil source. He spoke to the Head chef yesterday and they don't like the OH&S issues of the staff carrying 20L buckets to the disposal tank. My friend wants to provide them with one of these which he feels will clinch the deal for him.

Shortening Disposal unit.

That pump looks just like a harborfreight pump I tried. If it is the same, I challenge anyone to deliver 50 pounds of grease in 60 seconds. That's almost 1.5 cubies. I'm not a big guy, but not a shrimp either. That would be quite the flow rate. Nearly a pound a second. More than half a quart. Sure... Five minutes of pumping later your employee isn't going to be happy. What's wrong with gravity letting it flow out into that wheelable container? Is that too easy. To me that looks like a poor design trying to cover up it's design faults by challenging them up front with misinformation. I'd stay away from it.

Oh wait a minute. I see. The pump is to get the oil out. Gravity puts it in. pump out... I still stand by my greater than one minute of pumping statement.

I'm trying to figure out where the 50 pounds in one minute came into the picture.

Raften: "eavy-duty manual pump can empty 50 lbs of oil in less than 60 seconds."

From the site listed above: Shortening Disposal Unit

Thanks Gavin. 50# is roughly 7.5 gallons and while I can't do it I am guessing it can happen with hot oil, not from the first crank but after everything is primed.
