Who else feels the same. I'd rather pay a $1. a gallon for new svo, then give the oil investors a dime.
Damn vendors hogged all the wvo.

It appears you haven't checked prices on virgin veg oil lately -- a buck a gallon?! Spot market for yellow grease (same as WVO for our purposes) is currently about $3 a gallon. Even if you bought the cheapest available virgin oil by the railcar load, I bet you would be paying as much as or more than diesel currently costs.

Spot price: http://www.ams.usda.gov/mnreports/sj_gr210.txt

Reading this line, got me to thinking, maybe working for a vendor collecting waste vegoil might not be a bad job, just get to siphon some off as part of wages. Hows that sound for an idea, paid and free fuel besides. Wonder if thats being done anywhere.

Bloody capitalism!! How dare he?!? Wink

Oh, wait... How is that different from you collecting it and using it to save money -- same as profiting? Getting out-competed just sucks. It's happening everywhere as waste oil becomes increasingly valuable. The days of free oil are ending, if they aren't over.

I still doubt you can buy virgin oil for less than a 50-100% premium over current diesel costs, even in quantity. It's one more reason food and commercial biodiesel have gotten so expensive.

I don't think it's a good idea to use clean VO. Don't they use up petroleum (as in fertilizer) to make VO in the first place?

Yes, a lot of petroleum goes into cultivating, fertilizing, and harvesting oilseed crops.
I agree that it isn't ethical using food grade VO for anything but baseline VO research.
