I have an motor off a jet pump. It is 1/3 hp, 3450 rpm. Will this motor work? I see on dieselcrafts website that the motor they sell is 1725 rpm. As long as I use the right size pulley setup I'm assuming it will work. It will be running a power steering pump.

It should work fine with a pulley. If possible, slow it down below 1725rpm. I have a rotary gear pump set up for pumping really thick liquids running at 850rpm. It has no problem pumping really thick oil.

I'd design the pulley arrangement to slow down the pump speed to about 1250 if possible. Just a guess, though.

I wish I could figure out how you guys are running a centrifuge with a 1/3 HP motor. I tried a 1/2 HP and had to bump up to a 3/4 hp. I still had the thermal protection kick in once with the bigger motor. I am using a SBC oil pump and spinner II centrifuge. They are direct coupled and it runs at 1750 rpm. I wish I had a 1 HP. Any insight?

Your pump is too much flow, so you need more HP. A SBC pump does 20gpm open flow according to some, my gear pump does 2gpm.

PasoTX- Have you tried installiing a bypass valve large enough to handle the flow ? I guess you could slow thing down some using pulleys vs direct drive .

Hello, can anyone give me advice on how to remove a pulley from an electric motor? It has a set bolt which I removed but it still won't come off. I've tried pulling on it and used some penetrating oil as well, but no luck.

Get a pulley puller from harborfreight or an auto parts store.
