I am installing a VO Controller on an 06 Jetta and having troubles finding which ignition wires to tap. I have done installations on earlier VW's without any problems but with this one the steering column is quite confusing and different than any I am used to. I'm afraid to unplug any harnesses because I'm not sure if it will affect the air bag or the security system?

What I'm looking for is two ignition wires.
One that is on while in the run position and off during cranking
and another that is on while in the run position and on while cranking

Any ideas?

The load reduction relay circuit (aka accessory circuit) is usually the black/red wire coming out of the ignition on VWs. I'd check that first. Power is usually black in VWs (God knows why though....)

The easiest way is to just get a multimeter with sharp tips (99% of them have them, even the cheap sub-$10 ones) and probe the wires, watching the voltage while the car is on/off and starting (with a helper to do the key turning of course).

Thanks,

Thanks Ray.

What I was wondering though is can I tap any circuit that fits the off/on/on and off/on/off criteria or does it have to be directly from the ignition? What I mean is some accessories in the fuse panel shut off while cranking and some stay live. Can I tap such a circuit or is it completely necessary to tap directly to the ignition? The ignition is buried in this 06 Jetta by the security system, I can't even tell which harness comes from the ignition. I think it all goes directly into a non open able black security box on the underside of the steering column . I'm trying to enable the auto purge. Maybe I'll have to stick to the buzzer config, but even for this I still need these wires?

Thanks again for your great product!

Will

Hi Will,

They don't have to be in the ignition, the wires can be any circuit that fits those patterns.

The next step after finding them though is to find out which circuit(s) power the ECU to keep it and any necessary subsystems alive for the auto-purge circuit.

Thanks,

I'm about to install a VOControl on my 2002 TDI Jetta. I was under the impression I simply needed to locate an "on" & 'off" wire. What is this "off/on/on and off/on/off criteria". I went to the VOcontrol site but do not see any 2002 Jetta wiring notes specifically. I've read the manual. Is there a model that is the same as the Jetta on the VOcontrol site? or please expalain the wiring "criteria".

Thanks

Joe
