just found your site. wish i had found it before i bought my dodge. am currently routing the fuel return back in front of the lift pump. after burning up my injector pump in short order, i am thinking that may be the cause. the chrysler manual states the fuel return job is to move more fuel thru the injector pump than the motor can burn. the reason for this is the excess fuel is required to cool the pump. anyway just wondering if anyone has had any luck running a 98.5 thru 2002 dodge?
thanks, adam

I'm converting mine right now . What kit do you have , how is your system plumbed ? Your saying you think your oil was too hot?

There are a few , but not many that have converted this truck . I know of 2 active posters on the frybrid forum .

Those years of Dodge have many problems with lift pump and IP failure, even running on diesel. I recommend you put a fuel pressure guage (edit- and alarm!) before the IP on it right away. Pressure below 5psi can cause the IP to fail. I have heard of some issues with heat causing electronics in the IP to fail, but that is less common and I think there are some mods to the IP to help that. There are people running systems with those years but it requires special design and careful operation. Read more about it here: http://www.frybrid.com/vp44.htm

I understand the "hot" set-up is the 24 valve with the old style in-line injector pump. (94-98.5) Especially if you are already replacing a pump.

Yes those are the best years because of the Bosch P7100 inline pump, and they are 12 valve not 24 until after 98.5.

edit - I just realized you probably are talking about retrofitting the old IP onto the newer than 98.5 engine, and from what I saw on DTR its very hard to do. Especially since then all the computerized controls don't work anymore so its much more than a IP swap. Around $1500+the IP price+lots of labor. Here are some of the parts needed to convert:
Parts.
1. cam sensor adapter $75
2. timing gear housing $270
3. p-7100 pump and gear--??
4. Lift pump $175--NAPA
5. HMR Cam 427.50
6. HMR Injector Lines 451.20
7. Pump Brackets ?
