I am going to get started on the second order. I don't have pricing, but I will try to get it this week. Everyone who asked me for an extra FPHE, I only had 2 left and I offered them out in order of the oldest request first. Anyway, if you want one, please post here and I will post pricing when I get it.

I am interested in one that has at least 20 plates...probably up to about 30 (I'm fairly certain they only come in even numbers of plates). My other interest is that they have tapered pipe threads, female, 3/4" (unless they have 5/8" but I'm fairly certain they don't). I'm also fairly certain they don't have the KA030 model with the thread sizes I've spec'd.

So,
As a compromise, I'll propose a 26 plate KA030 with the 1/2" female TAPERED threads (standard pipe threads...looks like we'll need to confirm this one).

If anybody is interested in getting the KA050 that comes in 3/4" ports, I would be interested in that too.
Is anybody else worried about the 1/2" fittings being a restriction in the FIRST piece of heating equipment in the system? I'm worried about it, but I'm sure it will still work fairly well.

Also, should be see about nickel brazing, or are folks confident that the standard will be fine for a long service life?

Sorry for all the confusing stuff, but I just want to make sure we consider it well before ordering Smile

Thanks,
Clem

BK, My 2 cents is the bigger the better. If equillibrium is met..or the closest that is possible with this form of heat exchange so be it. I have been really frustrated with my max temps and am ready to pull a trailer to haul around my Volkswagon sized heat exchanger. My coolant temp reaches 210 and my VO 145 MAX. I will be ok with anything bigger than K030-20. the biggest K030 has 38 plates and has about 2 1/2 times the heat transfer area. Here is the Kaori product specs page for the K030. I wonder if going to the K050 really bumps up the price. -Nick

If you want, check on pricing for a nickel-brazed HE 1/2" female NPT with your bulk order. I have already received a quote, but want to see if you can get a cheaper price in a bulk order. They will be available early to mid-Feb, I think.

Here's a guy who's organizing a buy from the CA representative. Maybe he can do the next buy and I will inquire on a larger unit since some people want BIG or more plates.

I don't know the person "omar", so it's up to you all, can't vouch for him but he posted his Ebay feedback links...

I have received a response from "Estonia Dude" (Mart Malsub) giving a quote for one 30 plate exchanger with 1/2" NPT Female threads for $130 plus shipping.

I have asked him to give us a price for 10 and then 20 considering that we would contact him and buy individually. This way we can gather interested folks and order at about the same time and each pay and receive individually.

We'll see when I get a response if there's enough interest in this unit.

Thanks,
Clem

I got a preliminary price from Estonia rep of $91 for the 30 plate, $77 for the 20 plate. He is getting final pricing for me, I told him I wanted 20 more. He's slow at returning e-mails.

hmm, two different prices from the same guy? what's the deal....is it $91 for him to ship the whole lot to one place and the $130 for individuals to buy directly? -Nick

I think that's it. I am a "business buying many for my group's use"...rather than a onesy-twosy buyer. Discount for quantity is normal. Just a matter of getting him to give me a final price, that's what takes so long since he doesn't e-mail back quickly.

Are you guys actually going to trust him again? Didn't his earlier ebay auction specifically state 1/2" NPT?

Hey all,

I wasn't trying to contribute to the confusion. Before BKH announced he was ready for the next go'round, I had contacted the Estonian seller and he finally got back to me yesterday (he must get on the computer once a week Wink). He said for a 30 plate KA030 with 1/2 NTP threads (I was asking for female) it would be $130. That is for ONE. I replied that I was interesed in a price if 10 (and then another for 20) people would contact him individually to buy them.

Nick, It is a KA030, so the dimensions listed on the website for a 30 plate version seem to be 80x190x78 or Pix7.5x3 inches (roughly, 3 1/4x7 1/2x3). This doesn't include the protruding port/fittings.

BK, I hope you get confirmation on those prices and are willing to front the money again for a purchase because I'll jump right on a $90 30 plate one. Question, is that with female or male threads?

And Friar, no, the auction simply stated 1/2" threads. It made no mention of tapered threads. Us US folks sometimes forget that we're not the only nation in the world (and that our units mostly suck!).

Thanks,
Clem

I just got off the phone with the California rep for Kaori Heat Exchangers. Here are the price quotes for the different model heat exchangers. The prices are good for 90 days . The nickel-brazed units have had a price increase for 2006. Anyway this is the quote:

K030*16M-NP6 $57.00 4 Week ARO 16 Plates, Copper-Brazed
K030*16N-NP6 $143.00 4 Week ARO 16 Plates, Nickel-Brazed
K030*26M-NP6 $75.00 4 Week ARO 26 Plates, Copper-Brazed
K030*26N-NP6 $199.00 6 Week ARO 26 Plates, Nickel-Brazed
-THESE PRICES ARE FOR FIVE UNITS OR MORE

The 26-plate heat exchangers (K030*26… copper and nickel) that are coming in the Feb shipment have 1/2" NPT Female threads.

Currently, the California rep only has twelve of the 16-plate copper models in stock, eight of which are committed to buyers. There will be no other shipments until February. The above prices are current for the United States. We might get a better price, plus be able to dictate our own specs, if we bought 100 units at a time. Or you might be able to make a better deal with Estonia. Hopefully we can create a database for adding heat exchangers to WVO systems. Maybe we can start a data page. If everyone could shoot pictures of their installations, they could be added to the database, also. Essentially, we’ve already created a buyer’s coop; if we made it official, we could get better price breaks in the future.

That’s my update. I’ll let you know when I have more information.

great omar, thanks! is this a price if the entire order is one size or can we mix sizes in the order to accomodate people who want bigger, smaller, etc? If it's the ladder can the guy give us prices of the bigger 030's. i think the biggest is 38 plates. if it's the former forget it...but my vote is for BIG. thanks-Nick
