I'm new to the WVO group. I may ask questions that sound stupid but that's the only way that I know to get answers. With that in mind, can diesel fuel treatment be used to remove water from waste oil?

Also thanks to maddasher for the answer on the pump.

No. Water in veg works far different than D2.

heat and settle method works but I have found the only true way to get it all out is boil it out..

Just heat the oil up to 250 and then it will boil off all the water , just like when you drop water into a fry daddy thats hot... I use water heater elements to boil 30 gallons at a time .. then let it cool a bit and filter it at about 120 degrees..

I have found the only true way

While your epiphany is admirable, do realize that others have produced clear clean dry VO without boiling it. Perhaps boiling is necessary with your "WVO", lots of others don't have to.

I have tried various ways of De-watering oil and found that boiling truly and without doubt, is the slowest, most dangerous, energy intensive and unreliable way of drying oil there is.

If it's the only true way you have found, I would suggest you need to expand your horizons and try a few more drying methods.Just about anyone of them will be better than boiling!

Another thing about boiling is that it does not remove anything like salt or sugar that may have been present in the water as solutes. What becomes of them? Do they settle to the bottom? If so, how fast? Steve

I am surprised at that statement from Ebacherville that "the only true way to get it all out is boil it out.". Where has he been?

To answer knottman's question. After the water is boiled out (an extreme waste of energy), the salt/sugar/vinegar and what have you that is heavier than oil, will settle to the bottome given the right environment, i.e. no convection currents.
