Hi -
I have been bitten by the WVO concept bug, but am met with nay-sayers at ever turn. My real question is will this be practicla in a state like Minnesota, and How difficult is it to find diesel at most service stations?
Any local or cold weather experience out there?
Thanks-
Greg

Observe that there is no alligators around.
Conclude bananas placed in ears keep aligators away.

Hi Greg,

My first try at running wvo in the winter in MN..(A rabbit in Bemidji) around 13 years ago ended in failure because of problems when the weather turned cold. But the technology has come a LONG way since then.

I have been running wvo trouble free all year long in MN for several years now. I consider it practical if you are not simply using it for short commutes of 15 miles or less each day. Diesels are not as suited to lots of short cold runs as gasoline engines. And running them on wvo for such uses is probably not practical even at todays fuel prices. But if you put on lots of miles..it is definitely practical..even in MN.

Frankly..with the dramatic increase in interest in wvo fuel recently I suspect that all conversions are going to have to be upgraded to the use the high fat/hydrogenated wvo which is currently considered "bad/unusable" wvo by several kit makers. These upgrades allow solid or semisolid wvo to be used...and are exactly the same ones needed to run on wvo year around in MN.

And though not all fuel stations carry diesel...a surprising number of them do. Obtaining it is usually not an issue. But if you convert to wvo..you won't be needing much diesel. Big Grin
