I would love to hear from anyone that has successfully converted or partially converted to WVO on their common rail diesel.

Thank you,

I know a guy here in Houston running a fairly new Duramax with a Golden Fuel Systems kit on it. He has tens of thousands of successful miles on VO.

Cheers, John

We've sold several kits for the Duramax. The '06 and later are easier since they don't have the FICM that needs to have cool diesel flowing past it even while on WVO. Email me for details at craigreece@plantdrive.com

Craig, how do you go about keeping the FICM cool on the early Duramax's? Do you have a plumbing diagram for them?

Thanks for the info.

To confirm: For the 06 Duramax and later, do you know of any problem with running a vegtherm? Nothing is cooled by the fuel, so running 160 F fuel has no problems?

I have a 2004.5 Cummins Common Rail converted to WVO, works good, they have similar fuel systems to a duramax.

Yes it's true The duramax and the 03-07 cummins are very similar. They both use the Bosch HPCR fuel system, but different platforms. They both are quite capable VO fuel systems in that the fuel system itself generates enormous heat during normal function i.e. squeezing fuel to 23,000+ psi = heat. In fact the duramax has an air to liquid fuel cooler on the return line just prior to returning to the tank. How do you cool the FMIC on pre '06 models? with an aux electric pump tied into the diesel side and set to circulate while on VO. I prefer the cummins but the D-max has the allison tranny so it's tough call. Both great platforms for VO use.

Yes I chose my Cummins because of how easy it is to work on under the hood (space) and the Cummins reputation. I have about 25k vegetable oil miles on my Cummins.
The Duramax is also a good truck, I don't know of too many bad points. The Allison transmission is nice because of its extra gear(s), but strength wise, the dodge and allison tranny are just as good as one another.

Well I won't argue with the cummins...good gear, got buddies running them and one with the new 6 spd - no issues at all.

Craig. I have an 06 LBZ with some mods. e-mail sent.

thanx,

stk

I recently finished up a wvo conversion(version 1.0) on my 2006 lbz duramax with 30k miles. So far so good. I am running a blend of 20/80 diesel/wvo for now till I get a feel for my system. My components are a combination that I feel is best for my application. I haven't experienced any engine hiccups, smoke, or anything. Hopefully it stays that way. Have some pics...hopefully the link works:

I used the speed-flex hose which require the speed-seal hose ends. It's a teflon hose. Prices are on the website. Definitely not cheap. I wanted the best though. Hoses and fittings for my system came up to around $900 or so.
