So I just bought the fattywagon injector line heaters and recieved them in the mail yesterday...I really wanted to hook them up on my '82 300d this weekend and everything looks good so far but i'm confused about the whole, "jumper wire" thing...

i assumed everything i needed to do this was in the kit i just ordered but i don't really think the heaters will fit without the jumper wires (another $9),,,i printed off the instructions i just want to make sure i have everything in line before i start...

i guess i just want to know if anyone has had luck installing these on a 300D without the additional jumper wire kit or if i could just make my own jumper wires... they look pretty simple to make...any help would be appreciated...thanks...

Hi Veg head,
The jumper kit is not necessary for the 5 cylinder Benz... have a look at some of the install on the photo gallery.. you can see the routing.. make sure use some RTV to keep the sharp edges of the vibration clamps from cutting into the ceramic insulation and to coat the exposed insulation between injector lines with RTV..

Hi Veg head,
The heater is 30" you can easily get 4-5 " of contact area on each line...

Veg, you may want to get some small bell wire OR some bailing wire (just cheap wire), cut the cheap wire to the same length as the injector line heater, and start bending it around in your engine bay to see how it fits best. Once you have the wire bent to approximate what you want, use it as a guide to measure & pre-bend the line heater.

I used some 14 gauge wire from an electric fence setup. Hold what ever shape you bend it to.

I'm considering by a one of the Fattywagon injection line heaters but don't understand how to use the jumper kit except to bridge the gap between injection lines. A little help, please?

Thanks for the reply, Fattywagonman,

I have visited the website several times and while most of the instructions were straightforward, I'm not clear on how to attach the wire from the jumper kit. Do you cut one end of the heater and attach the jumper to make the bridge to the next injector line?

Sorry to be slow on understanding, but I've not spent time working on engines in the past. Thanks for your help.

Yes you must cut the heater and then add the wire to jump between the cut... we recomend using a crimper as shown on the install page...

Thanks for the response. The installation seems simple enough now.

i divided the heater into 5 equal lenths w/ a tape measure and a sharpie. this gave me the lentgh for each injector line. then start w/ the grounded end and wrap away.

Be the change you hope to find in this world.-Gandhi

Fattwagonman:

Installed my injector line heaters today... no problems. They really heat up.

One question: there is some smoke that appears to be caused by the tape heating up. It doesn't seem as bad as at first, but I'm afraid to leave them connected. Does this eventually stop or have I connected something incorrectly?

Thanks in advance for your help.
