so i got one of the fleetguard filter set-ups off Ebay and its alot bigger than i thought.

is there any problem with me mounting this in the trunk next to my tank?

I know it will take longer for the coolent to warm it up but it WILL NOT fit under the hood.

What vehicle are you putting it in? I mounted mine inside my truck behind the drivers seat.

I have the same filter! Looks great, can't wait to put it in. I have a 97 cummins 12 valve. I don't know on your cummins, or I guess even what you're putting it in, but on my cummins, it's going to fit between the battery and the intake tube. I'm going to make a bracket, that will sit between the battery and tray.

well i was planning on putting it under the hood in my 80 240D but now i might put it in the trunk. but it will take longer to heat up that far away from the engine. I did get the one with the 12v 180W electric heater in it.

seems like there should be plenty of room under the hood of a 240. some peeps have moved/ replaced the washer reservior with a smaller one.

My 300TD had the huge(5L?) res, and I replaced it w/ a smaller one so I could mount a filter next to it.

i can move the washer reservoir but the filter is too tall i will have to drill a hole and it will stick out the bottom.

I just installed the very tall DavCO 234 in the trunk of my 83 300DT. I fabricated a metal cradle to hold the aux tank and included a mounting bracket for the filter. I bolted the tank on the far left in the trunk and the filter hangs into the left pocket. Seems to work fine. Takes about 4+ miles to warm up.

Enjoy,
Michael

on a 300d i relocated the ww bottle to the other side and mounted in that corner. i drilled in the inner fender well and the bowl and drain valve sticks out the bottom. worked our really well.

that is a great filter. i have literally gotten a year of use from the element with daily use.

i don't like sucking the fuel thru the filter. you will get many more miles from a filter forcing the oil thru with pressure. i think putting in the trunk and the fuel pump up front you will have to use vacuum to pull the fluid to the front.

if you send me a private message, i can have my son photograph the ww bottle bracket and the filter installation. since working on a benz you might find something useful in the documentation at:

http://www.pasotx.com/pat/benz_web_page.pdf

this used a oil cooler type filter. my first conversion used a fleetguard. routing the hoses to the back is a PITA no matter how you do it.

I have my filter in the trunk too. No problems with "pull" vs "push" so far. I have about 5,000 miles on the current filter. Unless you have some rock-solid method to mount it to the tank, I would mount it in the depression on either side of the trunk. You want this thing mounted really, really well. I made a bracket out of 3 pieces sheetmetal. I'll post a pic later.

i have a 7psi 12v universal fuel pump that i was going to put between the filter and tank so it would help the lift pump.

any pictures of what everyone else did would really help. thanks.
