I have 2 of the Goldenrod Lexan filter housings with one each a 40 and 80 mesh wire filter elements. I was pumping some grease thru them and when they clogged at around 10 to 15 psi and to my surprise the elements collapsed and shriveled up like a prune. I called up Dutton Lainson and was told: None of their filters are pressure or vacuum rated! They are designed for gravity feed only for their very limited market in agricultural fueling where the fuel storage tanks are up high and the machineries are gravity fueled!. I specifically remember a pic of Sunwizard's 5.9 Cummins with a Goldenrod head. Hey Sun, if you see this you may want to swap that thing out pronto.

I think Dana Linscott was a big proponent of the Goldenrod. I think he needs to update his DIY plans and use a better filter!.

The yellow lexan ones are gravity only. Funny thats what Lovecraft is now using. The cartridge goldenrod models are very different, and are rated for 50psi, printed right on the metal of the cartridge.

But I did switch filter types long ago since I didn't want the zinc head and I wanted a bigger element. I use a Cim-tek now.

sunwizard, all things being equal, could you compare the larger cim-tek filters versus the goldenrods in terms of longevity. I mean the relative surface area must be the difference in the longevity. Could you please estimate? I have always wondered what were the relative surface area differences between different filters. hope you can help, thanks george

I estimate its about 2x the filtering area and life.
Here is the one I used:

From what Dutton Lainson told me, I got the impression that all their filters, including the spin-on, are not pressure or vacuum rated.
