83 MB 300TD Wagon. New Filter, tightened clamps, the usual suspects. It will idle all day, but not go up a hills on veg. Problem is under a load. What else can go wrong? It has a Looped return with two 3 port fuel switches.

My first guess would be that not all the air got out of the system and there are air bubbles circulating through you system with no way to get out and only are noticeable under high RPMs.

Do you have a sight tube to check for air?

Fuel line size? Heated filter? Sounds like a restriction somewhere; when I ran WVO the oil had to be hot before the factory lift pump could pull enough fuel through the factory filter to drive normally at power.

5/16, copper coiled coolant heated filter.

So far he has purged the air all the way back to the tank...no sight tube....plenty of heat.

Yes, but air could have gotten past the return loop (towards the engine) and when you purge it doesn't push it back as the air is inbetween the return loop tee and the supply valve.

A clogged, twisted, or crimped fuel line may also produce these conditions as stated by UFO.

Good thinking, How do we clear that section?

Depends on how you plumbed the return. I set my Benz up with two switches, the supply and the return, so the loop can be purged. The old greasel kits had a manual valve used for purge. You need some purge capability, as loops will not remain air free.

I used 3/8" line for all my WVO supply, I thought thick veg might have issues with 5/16".

That is how I have mine set up. You can flip the supply switch and pump the air (primer pump) or drive it and do the same.

You will return a bit of veg to the main tank but you will purge any air out.

If you don't have two switches, just simply take the power off the return valve and then hit the switch. This would accomplish the same as having two switches.

It would help to know how you plumbed the system as there are many ways with the benz. For instance are you pushing or pulling fuel through the filter? Are you using the stock lift pump? You say looped return, but where do you loop to? Is the diesel side left stock?

Did you do a pan test on your veg oil to check for water?
