Hello there,
I was hoping someone experienced could answer a couple of questions for me:
1)I filtered through a cartdridge designed to filter water to 10 microns (basically the thing is a spool of string). At any rate, upon completion I see that the filtrate is still somewhat cloudy...I gather a lot of this is from tiny water droplets (see next question), but even after burning the water off it still is not completely clear. At what filtration level should the oil look completely clear. Also, should I ever expect to be able to get the color closer to unused oil?
2)What techniques are people out there using to get rid of the water in the oil? Seems heating would not be the best way to do it. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for any comments! --Chris

I would tend to be worried about any water in the oil for corrosion reasons. Anyone know how the electronic water separators work on late model VW diesels? Would these work for veggie oil as well?

I just got my on-board pump-and-filter setup going last night, and got a cloudy look not due to water, but from the pump mixing a little air in. It cleared up a few gallons into the transfer, so I know it wasn't the equipment. The pump has clear tubing connecting it to the oil/water separator/filter, which I have hanging off the tank opening with enough fuel line going into the tank to couterbalance it. The separator has a clear (with its current age, slightly opaque) chamber on the bottom to show if water is building up and to allow draining off of said water - much easier than trying to dry out the oil after it's in the tank! Also, my oil has sat long enough for most of the water to sink to the bottom.
