I'm playing with the idea of mixing SVO with #2 home heating oil. I have a very old furance. I'm not sure whats going to happen I plan on having the mixture in a tank with an slow aggitator to keep it mixed and then go threw a heated line into the furance any thoughts? My goal is to not blow up my house.

There is more to it than that. Because of varying viscosities, and the need to run at stoichiometry converting a burner in a furnace or boiler to run on SVO or WVO is trickier than converting a diesel. It can be done relatively easily if you know what you are doing though. Check out the yahoo group altfuelfurnace. The culture on that group is that they will expect you to poke around the archives for a while and learn about stuff before asking questions. There is so much to know that people who walk in and simply ask how to convert a furnace are usually ignored.

Be careful though. The stakes are higher. A failed WVO-diesel attempt might cause you to get stranded, or destroy a car's engine. A failed WVO heating attempt can lead to worse stuff like a cold wife, an unhappy wife, unhappy neighbors if you are screwed up and smoking up the neighborhood, or a burnt down house.

worse stuff like a cold wife, an unhappy wife,

You bet...I've toyed with the idea and always get the hairy eyeball from honey....Can't blame her. So as a compromise we are installing one of these http://www.fluemiser.com/ on my woodstove to heat hot water. With radiant heat I only need 130 degree water and i have an open system where heat and domestic water are one in the same. No boiler just a oil fired HWHeater. This device ought to get me a high reduction on oil use. Last year I used ~600gal. Hope to really cut into that this year. I'll keep you posted

i am in the process of doing the same thing. a good piece of advice is to get another burner and set it up to burn svo or wvo. this way you keep your #2 burner set up for that fuel and it can be interchanged.

i am also setting up a separate tank. basically, i will have two separate systems and only the burner box will be the same.

this way if i have problems burning wvo or my supply runs low i can quickly change to #2.

if you mix and have problems, you will waste both fuel supplies.
