what is the cheapest reliable pump and motor setup anyone has found?
does this motor look good? dayton 1/2 hp does anyone have pictures of their mobile rig? I'm going to start ordering/finding parts for one this week. Thanks |

That motor is fine, but its more important to get a pump first since if you get a close coupled one you want a different motor style. See my posts near the bottom of page 64 for a list of the best off the shelf pumps and motors I have found. I don't want any filter inline with the CF pump since it could clog when I am not there for hours and ruin the pump, or start a fire. I use this Fill-rite pump $150 for collection and transfer. It comes with a 150 micron suction strainer, which is all I use. Sunwizard. In your mobile rig why do you not pull from the bottom six inches of the barrel? I've seen people making the barrels on legs and putting the pipe in the bottom. Either way after some time the barrel should be cleaned, how do you go about doing this? thanks.

is the centrifuge bracket from dieselcraft useful in a mobile rig?

I always pull from the very lowest point in the barrel into the CF, mobile or not. I use a barrel with a removable top to make it easier to clean. I think you must be confusing my post about when I collect from a dumpster or barrel behind a restaurant, I never collect the bottom 6" of water and crunchy stuff. Yes its threaded so its easy to thread into a 3 way valve, then into the tank. This is the main difference on my mobile rig from the home rig pics you see all through this thread. how do you keep track of the oil temperature? Is there a temperature gauge somewhere in the line that I'm not seeing?

I have a IR thermometer which can measure temp anywhere you point it, very handy and was only $25 from harbor freight. My rig operates at a consistant range of temps now so I don't measure it much. I start the CF once the barrel is barely warm to touch (which is 105F at barrel, and 120F at CF inlet), and its always about 160F at CF when I stop which is now often the only time I check the temp to make sure it got hot enough. No since its the same rig and its plumbed for use at home right now. I will take some the next time I use it mobile, but the difference is so tiny most will not notice it unless I zoom in on the 3 way valve and ignore the entire rest of the rig that is the same. at shutdown you turn your three way valve and then where do you have that routed to? Do you run a hose to say a five gallon bucket? Approximately how much stuff comes out?

Out of the 3 way it has a short pipe extending over the side of the barrel. I collect in a quart jar I hold under the output since I like to look at what comes out to see if there is water. It drops 10 oz. or less if theres a lot of goo in the rotor. Hi all,
a few lines from Sweden. Today was my happiest day for several weeks, I was able to start cleaning my WVO with a centrifuge. The road from starting reading and learning here at the forums, has been full of bumps and narrow turns left and right, but today at may 30 it happened! The most difficult work was to find all parts I needed, but with great help from our plumbers across the street, I got the pipes, T-ees, bends, valves etc, which needed. One nice guy gave me a gear pump with a capable flow of 15L/min and a pressure up to 150 bars! A cheap electric motor was found at the net, but the coupling between the motor and pump is brand new. With help from the plumbers, we made a loop of valves and pipes to let the excess oil loop and by adjusting one valve, I got exact pressure of 6 bar /90 psi. I build the barrel from the advice of SunWizard, thank you to you. I use 220VAC and a 1500 watt water heater vertically in the pipe. The heater has three elements, total of 4500 watt, but I only need to use one so far. I also got a temperature controller from the plumbers, which can be seen at one of the pics. But I am not sure if I reached 70 C more likely 50 or 60, since mye thermometer is not accurate. I will buy an IR thermometer tomorrow. I GOT AN AIRPLANE IN MY GARAGE! Yes, what surprised me was the sound from the CF. It really started slowly and increased the speed as the pressure was adjusted. But at full speed, pressure of 6 bar/90 psi it vibrated and rotated as it should, I guess…? I started with a test of only 10 litres of oil, and to find out how everything worked, I let it run for a couple of hours. Checking the CF there was a little dirt, which I wiped off. Now I have cleaned ca. 70 litres or 1/3 of a barrel, for about one hour. I just have to check the content of dirt now after this letter, to see how much I got. Next step is to see if our Fiat Ducato 2,5 D will run on the oil. It is finished converted for WVO and it will be another excitement. I’ll try to post some pics for you all! Nice looking rig Steinar. That looks like enough motor and pump to run several centrifuges at once. Your garage is much cleaner than mine, good luck keeping it that way!
It would be good to tilt your barrel down towards the outlet so any water gets sent to the CF. Please keep us posted about how its working for you.
