this is my last question for a few days, i promise.
a lot has happened since wendesday.

i found a guy that will give me 55 gallon steel drums. but, they contained gasoline for his race car. and they are closed head.

can gasoline be cleaned out of a drum? i mean, i dont want any trace amounts of gasoline in the WVO ,right ?

and, would it ever be safe to cut into one? i have heard of guys who cut up drums for trash cans, BBQ's, etc. wont cut into one that contained gasoline, due to the explosion hazzard.

I don't think that gasoline will harm your wvo if you are just using it for wvo. People mix gasoline with WVO all the time.

My understanding is that yes you can cut into the gasoline drum if you first fill it with water. And do all your cutting with it full of water. The same is true for propane tanks.

But beware, I have never done it only read about others doing it this way.

I'm paranoid...

but I have cut and also welded fuel tanks back togather.

fill as full as you can with water (note only good for cutting heads off) then cut away. be careful of hot water blowing back at you. sounds silly maybe... but yes some of the water gets boiling hot and you're pumping lots of oxy/ace in there and sometimes the water will spray out at you.

Though your argument is very clever, I don't think it will lead to the results you desire. gandhi

No need to use water. Use the exhaust from a SI (Gasser) engine to flood the drum interior (the exhaust gas fgtom a SI engine has negligible oxygen content - hence they are used as suicide methods - doesn't work with a diesel). The drum can be cut with an angle grinder with no possibility of a explosion, unless you use the exhaust from a diesel (these have a high % oxygen, especially at idle).
Do not use an Oxy setto cut as you are providing the oxygen to combust any fuel vapours.

yep I know about the exhaust and dry ice... but I'm paranoid remember? had to use water so ther was no question as to full.

used an air operated muffler cut off tool once. that took awhile.

I have one of those that I use for filtering grease I just filled it with veggie oil emptied it out a few weeks latter and cut a couple of holes in the top for filters and a heating stick with a jig saw did not even blow up the garage or myself.
