I like this electric/coolant heater.
1984 Volvo 240 Elsbett 1 tank/glow plugs/injector nozzles/FPHE/fuel filter heater system, block heater, ILH 20%Kero, 80%WVO winter blend |

The DieselStore.com has 150 Watt Spike heater for the Stanadyne System. Which to me seems like it would liquify clouded oil pretty efficiently although havn't done it personally. It costs about 56 bucks.
I'm trying to learn if the Stanadyne filters from inside to out, and wether those filters are harder to buy, or more expensive. |

This has worked out very well for me. It's more complicated than it needs to be. You could probably use aluminum from a soda can as the sleeve. I also originally worried about the heat generated at each solder end. Any THHN conduit wire should work just well as it is rated for about 200 degrees F. With moving fluid I doubt it would get that hot. I run Bio and my objective was to prevent the fuel from crystalizing inside the filter from cold weather. I also insulated my filter as well using fiberglass matting and fiberglass insulation. |

For glow plugs I'd use Bosch Duraterm heavy duty afterglow type. Turning back the sealing surface 2mm allows them to protrude further into the combustion chamber and improves cold starting on vegetable oil.
Modifying thee glow plug control to give 2 -3 mins afterglow will improve combustion during cold running. See the OBED single tank page- http://wiki.obed.org.uk/index.php?title=PPO_single_tank_system |
