I just finished my first 2 1 Liter virgin oil test batches. I completed the 5 gentle washes. The last wash was almost clear after the final shaking. The BD looks like watered down orange juice. I was wondering what the white residue is that settles at the bottom after each wash & if that is normal. I was also wondering about the quality of my BD. How do I test it. Thanks in advance for any feedback.
I'm a newbie at this myself. Someone with more experience may have a more insightful answer. Liquid slag is likely soap produced from water in the bottle at the start of the reaction. If it appears granular it is likely undissolved NOH. This less likely as NOH would readily mix with the wash water.

I believe you nailed it -- soap! We decanted as much of the white slag as possible, then dried it using warm air. Now it is a golden clear liquid <g>. We will use a couple hurricane lanterns to compare our BD with untreated vegetable oil for the results of her "experiment." Thanks for answering my question.
